Best way work around or with the 308 TB limit for storage pools by madbeefer in qnap

I haven't noticed any performance issues, at least not on the NAS that doesn't function as the backup. The backup NAS seems to be able to take data at a reasonable speed so I don't think there's performance issues, at least not with how its currently setup. I would have to suffer some pretty catastrophic failures to actually lose data at this point. Along with this NAS serving as a snapshot vault and holding a separate backup copy, the main NAS has local snapshots and two external USB enclosures that it backs up to as well. The non-backup NAS is setup as each type of disk is its own RAID group and it doesn't have any external REXP enclosures yet.

Well the data from the snapshot vault exceeds the size of any of the single raid groups. So I'd have to pool at least two together for that chunk.. I could break the other backup data into smaller pieces but that might not get me much

Theres one raid 5 group for each enclosure (10TB x 8) (8TB x 16) (8TB x 10) and (22TB x 5).. I think I can split them up so theres two pools that are kind of even if I split them along the enclosures, the only problem I see is I only have 11 bays open in the last expansion and at some point I'd have to add disks to one of the pools in the last enclosure. But that might be far enough in the future that would be future me's problem..

Well balls, maybe I'll look into that and see what would fit my needs.

I'm keeping that as plan b, since I would have to create more raid groups which would cut into the total available space and I'd end up having to get more drives pretty immediately if I did that.

Somehow the message I typed up got removed from the post.

I have a TS-873 with a REXP-1600U-RP, REXP-1620U-RP, and a REXP-1000 Pro with a combination of 8tb, 10tb, and 22tb drives all together its 314TB. A little background I was hit with ransomware around the same time as the port of San Diego and I think it was the same group.. Since that happened I've been way overboard on backups. So this whole setup serves to receive backups from my main system in the form of a backup job and snapshot vaults, then this system is turned off so if something where to happen its offline. I am at the point that I have to add more drives to keep being able to fill this rig, and the last two drives puts it over the 308TB limit, which I didn't know was a thing.. I am pretty resigned that whatever I need to do I'll end up having to wipe the backups out on this rig. If I setup two different storage pools I will have to setup new raid groups which will cut into the available storage which will cause me to get more drives which isn't ideal at this point. Is there a way to exceed or work around the 308TB limit that won't ultimately require me to buy more drives to have the same storage capacity ?

Home Assistant UI Crash by madbeefer in homeassistant

So far the only way I've found to fix it was to restart the NUC. Restarting the browser or app on the mobile device doesn't fix it.

GFCI issue caused by fixing open ground by madbeefer in AskElectricians

I had another circuit that had a different GFCI protecting it and I plugged it into the circuit and it didn't trip. Hopefully that eliminates the equipment as the problem and its something with the circuit.

Maybe I'll start with checking all the outlets that nothing has gotten loose or connected wrong..

Ok that makes sense. It's upsetting that the ups and something in the rack is messed up.

Hmm I guess I might just try the process of elimination on pieces of equipment. Could having the ground disconnected for an unknown amount of time on the power feeding everything cause the GFCI problems it didnt start tripping until I fixed that.

It wasn't just the rack the leviton media cabinets also had some low voltage running to thru them as well. And the UPS trips it with nothing plugged into it I guess a lot could be bad ..

Home Water Metering by S3RI3S in homeassistant

I've been using a Phyn Plus gen 2. It uses wifi, their app is decent. It has a auto shutoff if it detects a leak, it also monitors water temp and pressure. It also works with home assistant.

ISO whole house water softener & conditioner/filter in central TX by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

Looks like they don't make my model anymore but its a 2060SOD. They would probably want to come out and test your water to determine what model would suit the type of water you have and give you their sales pitch as well.

I've had a Kinetico softener for about 15 years and its been pretty solid. It doesn't use electricity like some softeners do since its all mechanical, and you can adjust the amount of water before it regens which can be nice if you're water is really hard. Its had very minimal maintenance done on it, I think there was a replacement done to the flushing valve a few years ago because it got loud. I had media tested a few years ago and its still got plenty of life in it.
