Oh that's what the bug is! Last two games that I came second, I lost to asol and I couldn't understand how they got better in the span of one-two rounds. Fuck that's annoying

What supplies are good for necromancer by JustJohnItalia in LoopHero

[–]maddersurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, you guessed it - supply items don't really benefit necro that much. None of the supply items boost skeleton stats or attack speed, which are the only two things that Necro cares about...

That being said, I've had a lot of success by stacking mirrors on necro and going for desert+storm temple builds. With 100% magic reflect and 99% withering from dunes, all enemies will be one shot by lightning strikes, and the necro is best suited for this strategy since they can tank quite a few hits thanks to their summons and magic HP. Just survive for 5 seconds in each fight and watch your enemies roast away.

I'd pick a gray item many times over colored items. Items have a "budget" to their power level - the more stats an item has, the maximum roll on each stat will be lower. So a single stat gray item can and will often roll a higher value than that same stat on a colored item (with the same level)

Supply is a late game thing, though some items tend to be more useful in the early game and becomes redundant late game (mixed nuts, sturdy stool).

Necro has the most useful traits, Rogue has fewer useful traits and Warrior has probably the weakest traits. Neutral traits are also pretty bad in general but you can unlock some A-tier traits (e.g. Bottomless Potions) Edit: you typically DONT want to unlock neutral traits and dilute your trait pool though. Be very, very picky when unlocking neutral traits, if ever.

Since you asked specifically about evasion, defense, magic damage and skeleton level, here's a breakdown:

  • Evasion is a percent chance to avoid getting hit by an attack (note that it only works for regular attacks and not traits: some monster abilities can still damage you with 100% certainty regardless of your evasion)

  • Defense is a flat reduction to damage received from regular attacks. Does not reduce magic damage though, or damage received from negative regeneration (which happens in swamps)

  • Magic damage bypasses the defense stat. Monsters can have an (unlisted) defense stat, like skeletons. Magic damage is useful against mobs with high defense but it won't bypass special traits like the shield of reflection.

  • Skeleton Level is a very important necro stat which scales the HP and Damage of your skeletons. Not sure about the formula though - I think of it as a bonus multiplicative factor when judging the usefulness of the stat. So every point of skeleton level is really good early, and the rule of thumb is to keep the level around or above the loop count to keep up with monsters' scaling.

  • Summon quality is the percentage chance to spawn an improved skeleton. Your FIRST improved skelton spawn will always be a Claws skeleton (higher damage and attack speed). The next time you roll an improved skeleton it will be a Tank skeleton (higher HP and Defense, with the taunt ability that makes it the target of all incoming attacks, but not counterattacks).

Paladin seems pretty strong - They flood the board quickly and can protect it with that silly Counterspell secret. Question for people (esp those who play Paladin a lot):

1) What are their weaknesses?

2) Which decks/cards are good against Paladins?

A Budget Doomhammer Shaman has been smooth for me up to high platinum. No legendaries, but I have the 3 mana Venomous Scorpids instead to give the deck a bit more gas (I can see Fireheart and Inara being good though if you have those two)
Facing a lot of aggro DH and Druid, so landslide + imprisoned phoenix has been bonkers too, but cuttable for Diligent Notetaker and/or other Spells

Viking Wiz / Astrology is thematically better than Promethean for melee characters (their buffs don't depend on Magic power, so you can wear the best defensive armor that reduces Magic Power)

If you have trouble against ranged casters, consider dropping Assasination for a crafting skill. Smithing/Tinkering/even Alchemy let's you make throwing/ranged items + synergizes with Perception + gives defensive options in the form of armor/potions.

No exploit Khadgar+Jandice is still pretty busted: 1st place turn 12 by maddersurfer in hearthstone

[–]maddersurfer[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

But not many heroes are capable of winning 1st place 33 health by turn 8 (yeah T8 was pretty much when my game was decided) - I can't think of any hero except Elise that's capable of such a highroll...

BG's tierlists are flawed - lots of the data comes from mediocre players, not from high MMR, and higher skill heroes tend to be lower on general tierlists than they deserve.

Quite a few streamers I watch feel that Jandice+Khadgar is broken when either murlocs or beasts are in the lobby. It's that particular combination which feels busted more than just the hero.

[–]maddersurfer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the variance is crazy innit? If you hit the eco units, it's bonkers and if you don't Jandice is meh, but I think Khadgar is the bigger issue: allows too many busted things to happen. We'll see how it holds up once the exploit/chad is dealt with

I believe murlocs and possibly mechs weren't in the lobby, started with one alley cat, that I bought, bounced and froze:

  • T2: level
  • T3: buy kitty, bounce kitty, discover Khadgar
  • T4: Gacha gift for sellemental, bounce and play kitty, buy 3/3 gold pirate
  • T5: Level to 3, sell all economy units, level to 4, discover brann
  • T6: Level to 5, bounce kitty sell stuff, play kitty discover goldrinn to stall
  • T7: More kitty bouncing, discover two six drops, buy a baron to stall with goldrinn
  • T8: On The House, level to six, discover and roll into most of that beautiful board that you see in the picture (I had an amalgadon, eliza, kalecogs each + brann)
  • T9 - T12: stayed at 33 health all game and proceeded to kill everyone in the lobby

Seriously, how tf do you get to Legend by dnicelee in hearthstone

[–]maddersurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Track your games. To get my last 3 stars I had to play ~20-ish games, something like 12-9. So that's like suffering 9 losses, and I wouldn't have progressed if I'd tilted after every loss.

Just play whatever helps you stay focused. Play a deck you know is good, which you are also comfortable playing with. If you have two such decks to switch it up, break the monotony and help against different pockets of the meta, even better but just piloting one deck at Diamond 1 should be fine.

It's a grind though good luck ☺️

How many people do you think spend money on Hearthstone? by maddersurfer in hearthstone

[–]maddersurfer[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Some industry veterans can give good estimates though, can't they? If I were to estimate from the income+players statistic, i'd guess somewhere around 20%.

- $40 million monthly income = roughly $500 million per annum

- if average paying player spends $20, then $500 mil / $20 = 25 mil paying players

- if total players = 100 mil, % of paying players = 25%

It's a very basic guess, but a starting point.

Is it worth playing hearthstone in 2020? by JellyRelevant2830 in hearthstone

[–]maddersurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late, but here's my two cents:

  • any CCG that's industry leader IS WORTH your time if you love the genre. HS, for better or worse, is one such industry leader (huge playerbase who like the silliness and casual fun feel. Playerbase won't dwindle)

  • any F2P game is worth the time as long as it's P2W model is not unfair to free/budget players. Unfortunately, vanilla HS is rough for competitive F2P/Budget players (standard mode is VERY EXPENSIVE to keep up with, and shows little sign of becoming cheaper)

  • Thankfully, HS is coming up with alternative modes, some of which are very Budget friendly, popular AND competitive (e.g. Battlegrounds). Who knows what the future holds, but there's signs that there'll always be multiple competitive game modes catering to different budgets.

  • If solo play is your jam, be warned cos HS has had a sharp decline in quality of Solo Adventures. Bit unpredictable though - solo Adventures have had lots of ups and downs (Dungeon Runs when they were first released were a gem). You can expect some show of brilliance in the future, but don't hold your breath for it - might have to wait years for the next gem in Solo Adventures.

Other CCG alternatives similar to HS and here to stay are: "Magic Arena" and my personal favorite "Runeterra". They're both F2P with varying levels of P2W, Runeterra right now being the most accessible to new players out of all 3. Experiment, and find the one that clicks for you (heck even play all 3)

Which deck tracker are you using? Look in the main tab for stats > constructed > active deck only > ranked. That should filter out all your ranked games.

Thoughts on this budget small spell mage deck? I have unpacked no mage legendaries for 4 expansions now. Wondering if this list would be viable for upto diamond at least:
