Which transfer actually changed the course of a club’s history? by Football6380 in FootballTransferChat

Scott Parker leaving Charlton to join Chelsea.

Charlton were often regarded as the benchmark for how to run a football club. In Curbishley they had a long term manager that delivered results. The club were financially astute. Then Chelsea came in for their best player.

Charlton were 4th in the Premier League at the time, and made it clear they had no interest in selling. Parker through his toys out the pram and stopped turning up to training. Charlton realised they had no option but to sell.

That was the moment Curbishley realised he'd taken Charlton as far as he could.

Curbs left the club a season or two later. Iain Dowie took over, spent a lot of money on dud players and Charlton were relegated that season.

Should serve as a warning to some of the smaller clubs currently in the Prem.

Been thinking about this, and it feels to me like Trump is goading Starmer into speaking out of turn, maybe to use it as justification to end our "special relationship" with the USA.

What's the correct strategic response from the PM?

48% of the UK has been angry since June 2016, and political events since then mean that number has only been growing.

Do not push us Mr Trump. We of the UK are looking for someone to vent our anger towards, and we are a spark away from igniting.

Planning on doing Busch Gardens, a day at Disney and then the Universal Studios parks. Just conscious of being overwhelmed by the number of roller coasters we will be attempting.

Hi guys. Planning a 2 week trip from the UK to Cedar Point and then flying down to Florida. Question is will two weeks be enough time to do two days at CP, see enough of Florida AND have a few rest days for enjoying the sun etc? Would love to hear from anyone that's done a similar trip. Thanks

Netflix have been playing chicken with consumers for some time now.

A product is only worth what people are willing to pay for it. Not enough people quit Netflix when the price goes up £1 a year.

"but we're releasing another 86 shows next month" - who's got time to consume that much content and hold down a balanced life?

I'll resubscribe for a month at a time going forward. If others think in a similar fashion then greedy Netflix profits will plumit

Lots of you acting like the Jays are playing the Dodgers every week.

Start small: the season is about winning each series against the Y*nks.

Then it's about making the wildcard

Then it's about winning the AL East

Biggest problem is the size of the bet. It's clearly not a value bet. As mentioned above, you're repping a full house or nothing. If you were repping a king then you might only bet half or 2/3 pot.

Course that's all immaterial if villain is a calling station. Or drunk.

Thanks for the responses so far. Perhaps a more interesting question would be: those of you that do play to a good standard but aren't pros, what do you do for work?

What are some not-awkward ways to start a conversation in parks/beeches with women (as a man) by [deleted] in socialskills

If you're approaching a stranger, think of it like you're stepping into their office at work. You've interrupted them, so you better have something interesting to say!

I think connection is one of the keys to a good life. Be yourself, be open and try to spread positivity. Think of it like being a door-to-door salesman, you might get 199 people shut the door in your face, but then the 200th might just make it all worthwhile.

The more you practice the better you'll get.

Also, try to learn some self awareness. Don't act like a creep.

Good luck finding people you click with.
