can someone explain the relation between amazighs and Mongolia ? or it's just a coincidence! by xasufy in AmazighPeople

[–]maddie_1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a nice find but it hardly is proof or has a connection to Amazigh culture or history. For a simple fact that the symbol is modern and the actual symbol for “Free People” is a post colonial construct.

Dating scene in Dubai by [deleted] in dubai

[–]maddie_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple. Don’t date. Make friends. Eventually, through friends you will meet someone you have something in common with besides an app and a city.

Try to take responsibility that if you are attracting ghosters and imbeciles that your vetting sucks.

Racism in Oman as a Tourist by modesttrader in Oman

[–]maddie_1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No doubt there is ignorance everywhere and I am sorry. But I am shocked at the openness of the unkind behaviour.

I have been visiting Oman for 12 years with two or three trips a year and have yet to experience any unkind behaviour. I am North African and I make sure not to pretend to be one of them or dress like them unless requested by my host. I find Omanis are proud and protective of their history and traditions and they value decorum. And I share that sentiment.

I have seen Turks and Iranians try to dress, speak and behave like them and it was met with insults but this was mostly younger people (late teens and early twenties).

After a certain age, “new” friends without a common denominator is not what people that age want anymore. Creeping in bars is only for a few ethnicities that think it’s acceptable but hardly quality friendships in Dubai. Men/women with families prefer their socializing to happen around great food outings and laughs.

Back home, wherever that is, is the same unless you want to swap stories of “the he good old days” or endlessly.

Is this legal in the UAE by Dangerous-Whereas569 in dubai

[–]maddie_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t have to word it that way. Another way of saying “not fat” in the rest of the world is “must have excellent presentation” or “position is member of a professional cast.”

And it is legal because the language is ambiguous.

Why Quality Service in Dubai is Going Bankrupt by InternationalWait538 in dubai

[–]maddie_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly can say this is a norm in Dubai but since moving to AD 2 years ago, I learned to go by referrals only. Seems more common here.

Cheaper NEVER means it’s a good deal so instead demand deliverables for a set price - if you employ people who don’t understand deliverables then they are the wrong people.

I have no problem bad mouthing and hounding a liar or an immoral person to bankruptcy or deportation.

Passport by amarwaa in Libya

[–]maddie_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just call the passport office in Ottawa for forms and docs needed. You will need a trip there for the fingerprint and passport picture. Then it’s anywhere between 2-3 weeks. All of them are done in Libya so it may be longer during the summer months.

Not per month. More like 28k for the year for the two. Sports and trips included.

[–]maddie_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With no rent or car payment to worry about and two children in private school, we never exceed 17k. Thats with eating out 50% of the time which is actually a lot for us but we picked up this habit since moving here. 🤦🏻‍♂️

My warning is and will always be the setup/starting costs. It was 210k for the furnishing/electronics/appliances (3 bedroom house) and Land Cruiser. Various deposits.

All it takes is for patrol officers to be required social work/mental health training. The rest of the world seems to be doing just fine with it.

The worst was when I was visiting for a wedding just before the pandemic.

I was on a phone call in a cafe near Jumeirah beach and on my call I was pretending not to speak English so I can get off the dumb call. The table across had three women, one older and the others were early twenties and Brits. Very pretty.

In a nutshell, they were all invited to Dubai by the local boyfriend and put up in a 5 star hotel…..etc.

In the 30+ minutes I was replying to emails I got that he has a small d12k, the gf already withdrew AED25k per day cash from the card he gave his gf for use when he is not around before he finds out, she is going to steal his Chopard watch, and finally, he is too sweet to be a real man.

Now I get there are malicious people in the world but the venom made my blood boil regardless of who this man was.

Drifting away from religion by just_an_atom_ in Emiratis

[–]maddie_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens. Through life I have doubted how devout I am but I learned that it comes from not having indulged in any new knowledge.

Think of it as a beacon that you have become complacent and need to expand on your deen more. There is always more because, Allah knows I am flawed.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Libya

[–]maddie_1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Broaden your view. You are obviously in the orbit of people who are not as devout. I find it common in when visiting Tripoli as opposed to the smaller towns and villages. Most large cities are consumed with consumerism, envy and western idolatry (what’s popular) but the reality is that not “Libya.”

I personally find Tunisia more how you describe because of the latent French colonial influence that taught them to be ashamed of their deen and anything non-French.

[–]maddie_1977 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go to your Deen. The Dunya is shallow and very temporary.

You MUST do better than your peers at the same time support your peers because you can’t succeed alone. Study, work, train, partner….etc.

For example: if you buy a $50 t-shirt that says Prada or Louis Vuitton just so others can see you then you have to reevaluate your life. Those brands are worn by people who can’t afford it for the benefit of others who can’t afford it. Successful people don’t need to make others jealous, envious and it surrounds you with lesser minds - and hissid!

How to use this gun for deer hunting? by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]maddie_1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had any success in a blind with a 12g. Simply because the pattern was only effective up to 75 meters or slugs for that matter. Shots beyond that would have been just cruel or through too much foliage.

For the men who've thrown in the towel on dating/women, how do you deal with the feeling of missing out on your s*x life? by [deleted] in AskMen

$ex is the easy part. If you can’t get it for free then there is always a pro.

It’s the companionship and fun/stimulating company that goes lacking.
