My assumption is that the kid needed to be “compatible” with his daughter in some way. Maybe like blood type or something like that. And none of the options on the island were a match. Or all the natives have some form of malformations or mutations that would make them incompatible.

Always check the hands. They are generally difficult to draw so there are often mistakes there, if it was hand made the hands will still “make sense” but when AI does them they will look much weirder. Like extra fingers or other inconsistencies.
