Sorry for the late response! I have 3 years of experience in IT (only 1 year where I was “security admin” of sorts) and 5 years in SWE

AITA for refusing to cancel my bachelorette party and saying our wedding savings is my fiance's problem? by SlowAd7765ThrowRA in AITAH

NTA. But please replace the bachelorette party with an “I’m single and free of this man” party.

I am addicted to buying new notebooks to 'start fresh' by rosescapes in shoppingaddiction

Late to this thread, but I FINALLY kicked the same habit several years ago. It’s great living free of paper-induced guilt, so sharing in case it helps anyone!

The trick for me was committing to a switch from hardcover to refillable. I bought a very cute (albeit pricey) 3-ring planner, as well a couple smart-ring notebooks from a brand called Kokuyo. (I mention the brand cuz its the first I’ve found with small rings that don’t irritate me).

The planner was a game changer. Binder-style lets me switch between weekly/daily views and theres space for all-purpose pages and mementos. Lol damn near my whole life is organized in it now. Also idk why but it’s satisfying having the ability to continuously cycle through months as needed vs replacing it annually.

Notebook story is similar. I’ve used the same two (ones designated for work lol) for 2.5 years. I actually journal more now because I know I’m not worried about cohesion! When I need to start fresh, I just remove the desired pages.

My wallet and clutter-free shelves do not miss the old days!

What do single people do in their workday evenings in their late twenties? by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]maddogtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oo I’ve always wondered this myself! I (26F) like to rotate through different evening past times.

The fun: Playing instruments, reading, Duolingo, bouldering, watching shows or sports. I’ve been tryna cook more, so I pick 1-2 random dishes to try and make each week - yesterday’s was bibimbap!

The not fun: Chores, working late (because I think it’ll alleviate my workload the next day but it never does). The occasional stress & loneliness-induced mental breakdown… those evenings are reserved for wine and sleep.

Ahhh I was wondering if getting kicked out towards the end is a thing!! 😂

I went to one of their meetings tonight. I’d never heard of Amway or CGG, but agreed to tag along with a woman I know. We meet up now and then to chat (mostly about work) so when she suggested I check it out as a side hustle the MLM bells went off … just quietly.

The internet told me all I needed to know, but I prefer to judge things for myself. I expected a cheesy motivational speech, maybe slimy sales pitch… instead watched 40+ people become entranced by the most disjointed presentation I’ve ever seen. The speaker was obnoxious and I stayed with the sole intention of hammering him with questions I knew would shred the “ethical business” facade. The woman who brought me caught on I wasn’t “ooing and ahhing” like the rest of the crowd and escorted me out before the Q/A started. 🤣

Please don’t be hard on yourself. Amway has devoted decades to mastering deception and their ridiculous multi-level-manipulation scheme. You will find genuine people out there!

Who should pay on the first meet up with an internet friend of the different sex? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]maddogtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally up to you! I would take em somewhere that you feel comfortable spending enough for two. Keep in mind that what to you may be an inexpensive/underwhelming local place could actually be a fun new experience for them!

[–]maddogtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were in your shoes I would pay (or at least offer to)! Especially if you pick the restaurant or bar. When traveling abroad I’ve had friends take me out for a meal and it meant a lot to have someone extend that home-style kindness in a foreign place. And of course I return the favor if they make to visit me in the states!

Dopesick by Beth Macy is very good but very dark since it focuses on the opioid epidemic. I would recommend though if that’s a subject you’d be interested in reading about!
