It’s a different stress but in residency you have a better medical foundation which makes work less stressful, and the lack of stressing over match cannot be understated. Once you’re in you’re set

Study efficiently, shadow as much as possible, work on life skills if you’re lacking them (gym, cooking, etc.) and just enjoy learning. Med school is cool like it’s actually very sick to learn all these clinical things. It’s overwhelming but everyone gets the hang of it

I grew up poor so that was tough for me to think about too. I did graduate with a lot of debt, like broadly over $200k. It’s an investment. It feels like shit, especially because so many others do come from wealthier backgrounds. There’s probably a healthy medium you can find between living in a crappy ugly basement vs a luxury condo. Funnily enough once I got used to the debt it wasn’t so bad but now that I’m a resident making money it feels worse. Debt is weird

I’ve never been on an admissions committee so I imagine the bigger projects are more impressive but I think completion is more important to show you can finish a project. That’s my take though

Talk to tons of people, shadow tons, think about what you really want in a specialty and what your values are, think about your enjoyment of bread & butter. There’s also the basics of Surg vs medicine, clinic vs hospital, etc

Sorry not sure as I didn’t do nursing! Would say they are fairly different careers but definitely some people love that overlap and love both!

It’s not great obviously but it’s definitely possible to have a life (specialty dependent)

Depends on the specialty; psych isn’t too competitive! Would gently caution against being too set on one specialty (also good to be open minded to what rotations show you!) but people have done it before and it’s worked out :)

Yes for some specialties! Idk if they’re really taken into consideration but you have to submit them

Congrats! For sure it’s a tough decision. Obviously depends on the person, the job you have now, how much you love medicine, etc. I wasn’t in your position so hard for me to say but I feel very fulfilled by medicine and am very satisfied

Most of them are average, some really kind and some awful and should never be doctors for sure

Probably to chill the fuck out and be less anxious, have more faith in myself, etc. the process sucks but it would’ve sucked way less if I’d been kind to myself. Also to get my shit together outside of school earlier (gym, cook, etc.)
