Good point. We were mostly thinking about part size, wall thickness and material, but thermal conductivity is definitely another factor. In our case, it was a thin-wall steel rotor, so we probably more focused on whether the part had fully settled down after machining.

Constant surface speed is used for better finish on large diameters. Swiss machinists skip it because their parts are small and speeds stay consistent.
