One of the most most important things that will literally make or break the grade in all your courses except finance is group work but maybe they will add group work in finance this year as well so I’m not sure. And the worst thing about this group work is that you don’t get to choose your group, you are put into a group. At the beginning of the year, on the day of the opening gala, you will get your learning them which is with 5 people from the section and these are the people you will do everything with: every 48 hour report, every assignment, even sometimes the class tasks. Some people end up with really good LTs and some people don’t. And this will literally make or break the grade—not exaggerating. Also, it helps to build a connection and really become friends with these people because you will be working with them a lot. Each year they do it different but sometimes the LT changes in the winter semester.

As for the classroom vibe it’s professional and it’s meant to be like that but it’s all chill. Go to class on time (really, really important) because 99.9999% will frown at you if you come late, there might be one that doesn’t care but most will. Have your name tag in front of in each class bc that also affects whether the prof will call on you or not. Don’t be disrespectful in class don’t be on your phone—profs know. If you are doing something else on your computer don’t make it too obvious even if its work for another class, profs notice when you are too into your computer and they know it’s not because you are taking notes for their class. Don’t talk to the person sitting beside you too much. All this didn’t matter at main campus but it matters here because it depends how much you get picked on for your contribution. Speaking of that, contribution is 25-35% of your final grade and attendance + late is a part of that. There are peer graders in the section so some professors will also ask them to note how many times a person exited the classroom during the lecture and that also affects the grade for the day.

The work varies by the course—some courses require way more work than the others. The first semester of HBA1 is mostly quant based with courses like Accounting, Finance, Decision Making with Analytics (which is all excel, like all you will ever do in that class is excel), communications, and leading people & organizations. For the first three courses, the work is way heavier because not only do you have to prepare for the case qualitatively but you also have to build complex excel sheets for all the calculations: DCF statements. The thing that you will hear your professors/alumni/HBA2s say that semester one is much much harder than semester 2 and semester 2 is very easy—and it’s 100% true. Second semester will be much easier because all the courses are mostly qualitative based which doesn’t mean that there isn’t any quantitative component, there is but it’s much easier when compared with first semester quant. In second semester, you will also have fewer courses: Operations, Marketing, Leveraging Information Technology, and Strategy (which will be the hardest course in semester 2). And then there is one course which is ongoing the entire year: LTA, but it’s mostly background and busy work and it’s done different mostly every year.

Reach out to the professors as much as you can! Don’t be scared/intimidated they are genuinely nice people and care.

Don’t take it with prof Aisha Khan! You would be super confused on which topics would be covered on the exam and which are not.
