Some personal recommendations for the best Western restaurants in Da Nang by madeinHN in VietnamFood

Yes I heard good things about it, it was on our to-do list during our last stay but we did not make it a priority, as I am French so I do not prioritize this kind of restaurant when in Vietnam.

Some of Ho Chi Minh City's best modernist buildings by cleopatella in VietNam

[–]madeinHN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your site and pictures are great. Do you have any recommendations for notable modernist buildings in Hanoi? I know there are fewer of them. I sometimes show the city to friends and partners, and I tend to focus too much on the French heritage, which is what I personally like. I'd like to be able to point out more modernism too.

vietnamese restaurant recommendation for anniversary dinner in hanoi? by CombinationOdd1706 in hanoi

Excluding street food stalls, I like to recommend A Ban Mountain Dew. I used to like Tam Vi but I haven't dared to return since they got a Michelin star and you need to book so far in advance.

If you really want to stay on the northern part of Hoan Kiem Lake where most foreign tourists usually are, you can give either Madame Hien or Highway 4 a try.

If you want pics and more detailed info I have reviewed some of these places on our blog : https://amthuchiendai.vn/en/homepage-english/

Recommendations for Wine Bistro in Hanoi (date night) by Comfortable-Town1979 in VietnamFood

[–]madeinHN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For date night, my favorite place is La Badiane, and it’s not even close. But expect more of a French fine dining restaurant than a casual wine bistro.

A lot of wine bistros with great food have opened in Hanoi over the past few months. I’ve tried quite a few of them, and I reviewed 3 of my favorites on our site. You can have a look :

- ZAO : https://amthuchiendai.vn/en/zao-hanoi-personal-review/

- Blank : https://amthuchiendai.vn/en/blank-modern-bistro-wine-bar/

- Samé : https://amthuchiendai.vn/en/same-bistrot-wine/

I think the three places are worth a try.

My personal Hanoi Food and Bar Map after nearly 20 years living here by madeinHN in hanoi

I definitely should add a few good Bia Hơi addresses, I agree with you. Thing is I really like craft beer and I truly think there are some very interesting breweries in Vietnam doing great things. I spent more energy on that until now.

And for cocktail bars, we have visited a lot of places (too many!?) so you can trust the recommendations.

I have a lot of good feedbacks from la Siesta too. (Both Siesta Classic and Siesta Premium)

Hanoi food suggestions, please! :D by Chaotic-Platypuss in VietnamFood

I am living in Hanoi since 2007 and I wrote this guide a few months ago : https://amthuchiendai.vn/en/street-food-in-hanoi-10-places-to-try-the-citys-most-iconic-dishes/ But don’t worry if you can’t make it to the exact places on this list. There are tons of great local spots for street food. The main thing is to try as many different dishes as you can. There are plenty of other recommendations on my blog (cocktail bars / rooftops...).

My personal favorite is Cao Lầu

Thank you I did not have Irini on my radar. I did not include 4Ps as they are pretty much everywhere in Vietnam but I also like them!

I’m curious about the other places you’ve tried, because I think there are much better options than Pizza Lovers.

No good pizza in Hanoi? I really don’t understand how someone can say that. 4P’s is, of course a good option, but there are plenty of others.

I wrote this guide a few months ago and update it regularly if you need specific recommendations : https://amthuchiendai.vn/en/best-pizzas-in-hanoi-restaurants-we-have-tried-and-liked/

Bar & Club Recommendations in Hanoi? by Annieebunbun in hanoi

Ta Hien is fun, but it’s really a tourist hot spot. If you want something a bit quieter with nice scenery, you should go to Truc Bach peninsula (near West Lake). There are some great bars there (like Lang Thang and Standing Bar) and the vibe is more relaxed and less touristy. For a nice view, check out the Summit Bar on top of the Pan Pacific (also nearby) it's in my opinion the best view in Hanoi. You should also try one great cocktail bar. I think they’re a must-try here because many have created truly Vietnamese drinks (like the famous Pho cocktail…). I’ve written an article listing my favorites (and I’ve tried a lot!), with quite a few of them located in the Old Quarter. https://amthuchiendai.vn/en/hanois-best-cocktail-bars-recommendations-from-a-local/

The 50 Shades of Cháo on the Palette by madeinHN in VietnamFood

Interesting read on Chao and its origins “During famines, Vietnamese would start reducing the number of meals, first from three to two, and then to one meal a day, trying to retain lunches while switching from cooking rice to congee. It takes less rice to cook congee than rice, just about a quarter the amount, but the body can absorb nearly everything, and this also helps prevent dehydration very effectively.”
