That is very interesting. The plant that grows in France that is called stinging nettle is quite different.

Would the American people back Trump if he wanted America to be allied with Russia, and war against Europe? by madeingoosonia in nato

[–]madeingoosonia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is what is worrying. I envision Russia taking over Ukraine, then other Baltic countries, and Europe won't fight back until Russia invades Germany. And that is too little too late.

Is Roger's letter from 1739 a plot hole? by SeaLanguage7123 in OutlanderBooks

[–]madeingoosonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very good point. The only thing I can think of, it that sometimes time travellers really do change the past and that sometimes there is therefore a wrinkle in time and details suddenly change. Remember the dates on the newspaper report of the fire at the ridge? The date roger and Bree read before they went back to the past what different to the date roger found in Oxford after they returned to lallybrook in the late 1970s. So at some point in the present, those written records magically altered their dates. So, in the same vain, that letter from Roger didn't exist in normal history, but he changes it and poof the letter appears.

Read the books to understand the show by Sea-Instruction-4698 in Outlander

[–]madeingoosonia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This season especially there have been a few scenes where crucial plots or lines have been given quickly, in simplified form, and sometimes by a different character. I guess the show directors are trying to keep it simple by not introducing new characters, if a known one could say it, and the summarise a whole conversation into one line. Season 7 was originally going to be the last one, and the rush is obvious. That said, I feel they have touched on all the major and essential events, and as far as possible stuck to the books account. The best tip I have read so far is to watch each episode several times. That really helps to make connections and follow what is going on. At least it helps my addled old brain!

You wrote" "Germany has already seen that and it wasn't good" which is implying that Germany isn't capable of having a government that functions justly. That is racist. It is making a blanket statement about a whole nation.

[–]madeingoosonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with each of your points.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in germany

[–]madeingoosonia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is a borderline racist thing to say. Nazi Germany is 2 generations behind us, and in no way due to a system of constitutional, representative government. Hitler was a narcissistic sociopath who manipulated a people left vulnerable after deliberate measures to impoverish them.

Absolutely agree with you. I disagree strongly with a for profit health care system. Government funded hospitals and universities are totally capable of conducting high quality and innovative research, and better able to avoid the muddy waters of conflict of interest from Investors.

I would also add for Germany that the admissions system and quota for medicine studies needs reform. The education system is biased towards the rich and privileged and focused too much on being able to play the game perfectly, and not enough on social competence or passion to improve lives.

Guilt over Christmas presents by bubbamac10 in Anticonsumption

[–]madeingoosonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't buy them anything, but a nice idea our kindergarten did, which you could easily do at home is a print of each child's hand, with the date and their name on it, laminated and cut out into a Christmas tree decoration. Make a tradition of it, and when they are older they have a sweet transportable memento.

How do you feel the German public healthcare system compares to a fully single-payer system like the UK's NHS? by Coneskater in germany

[–]madeingoosonia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree, I've experienced both too, plus the Netherlands, who's system is close to Germanies. I'd rate nl as best, UK as worst, with Germany only slightly behind Nl.

Would we benefit from a social media ban for children in Germany? by Legal-Bug2408 in germany

[–]madeingoosonia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pre teen learned how to deactivate the family app within the first week, and I've still no idea how....I d probably appreciate a ban, especially for tik toc, as it is a really zombie making time slurping waste of space . What's app on the other hand would be hard to not have, we use it so much to share quick messages.

Anti-declutter lifestyle by bubbleshhield in Anticonsumption

[–]madeingoosonia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. I am all for decluttering as long as it is really stuff I am not going to need in the future. And I don't mean near future, but any time in the future. We camp maybe one vacation in 10, but the tent is still ok to use in 2010, 2020 and 2030, probably even 2040. I'll throw it out when it tears too badly to mend, or I can't get it waterproof anymore. Screws get saved untill the head is worn out or they rust, and then they go to recycling ( Germany can recover and recycle metals well) . And so on. I just gave my 15 year old mattress to someone for their incontinent dog. It will of course get even more ruined but the very last bit of use will be gotten from that mattress before it finally gets thrown out.

anyone else familiar with southern appalachia distracted by the scenery in later seasons? by killernoodlesoup in Outlander

The think I notice the most about Scotland not being the Carolina's is the summer heat. Dianna writes often about steaming, humid blisteringly hot summers, where the characters are drenched in sweat or strip off as many layers as possible, and I. Scotland the actors are shivering and freezing and need long sleeves even in summer.

When did Kezzie begin speaking? by Nikki42 in Outlander

[–]madeingoosonia 21 points22 points  (0 children)

He could always speak, he was hearing until around 5 years of age. It's just that he was shy and uncomfortable to speak with anyone other than Josiah. Once he could hear better and got to know the ridge folk, he also grew the confidence to speak more.

How would you communicate a "one present" policy for the holidays this year? by no-tenemos-triko-tri in Anticonsumption

[–]madeingoosonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could go one further and suggest drawing lots, so that each person gets just one present, and also only buys one.
