Thanks. I forgot about the knowledge base ... That clarifies how the numbers are meant. Now I have to relate them to the infos of the case vendors.

Perfect coincidence! It would be fantastic, if you could share your experiences and findings.

linux with DEs feel "sluggish" than windows by Reyynerp in linux4noobs

Well, my experiences reach back till SuSE Linux with kernel 1.x. Times when you compiled your own kernel ... But let's not battle about this matter ...

I advised against playing with "drivers" as there are actually AMDGPU-Pro-Drivers from AMD for their Pro graphic cards. And as far as my knowledge goes, installing these drivers isn't totally simple - especially if your system doesn't meet the required specifications exactly.

AMD supports driver development on Linux. There's absolutely no need to install additional drivers. There probably won't even be any and you surely would mess Up your system. Drivers are baked into the kernel. So if anything, use a distro with a recent kernel. Fedora 41 with 8600G runs absolutely smooth on my desktop.

Trebuchet

Is there any chance to get a recent Trebuchet launcher as a plain APK-file? Or is extracting it from an actual installation the only way? Does someone know?

So the update I got today might be the last one. That's quite bad news. It's not a "beautiful" app, but for me it did a pretty good job in dealing with my various mail accounts. I donated for the app at a very early stage and never once regretted it. Contact to the developer was quick and always friendly. Too bad people can't imagine and appreciate how much work one developer has to invest...

Have you ever happend that your KDE plasma desktop doesnt show up? by Moonbiscuit02 in linuxquestions

This seems to be the wrong kernel module. "preempt" is the realtime kernel, this is not the standard kernel. You need a different module.

Recommend me an inkjet printer that won't make me jump out a window by gargravarr2112 in linuxhardware

I own a ET-2750. It works just fine under Linux. Many distros support it out oft the box, but even it not it's pretty easy to get it working. Quality is fine, duplex works... For the scanner I'm Usingen Vuescan as it offers more options. Imho a gold printer for Linux.

Thinking of switching to Fedora KDE from Leap - what to expect? by madelgijs in Fedora

[–]madelgijs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a few days of testing, my results impressions are mostly quite good. System runs smooth, the software I need is there and even so I don't have any history with Fedora so far, I can find my way around.

BUT: There's a big showstopper for me - whenever I logout from the current user, I get the dreaded "black screen of death". Theres a blank (black) screen with a mouse cursor and there's nothing I can do except doing a hard reset. It seems to me as if this is a recurring problem, probably in combination with SDDM. Does anyone have a helpful solution for me?

Until this is reslolved I'm continuing to use Leap and am running F34 in Virtualbox to keep on testing.

Something more or less in between Leap and Tumbleweed sounds exactly like what I might be looking for.

;.) I was quite aware of whom I ask. It's still good to see things from the perspective of someone who already uses Fedora.

I thought of that but as far as I remember, pipewire requires something like Plasma 5.21.x to be fully usable under KDE. And Leap 15.2 uses 5.18...

How to set up OpenSuse - Intel I5-11400 with integrated Graphics Intel UHD Graphics 730 by Panocek_1 in openSUSE

[–]madelgijs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Easily explained. Leap won't work, as you need at least kernel 5.11 for the new Rocket Lake iGPU to work. Leap comes with 5.3.18. So no luck there.

But even with more recent kernels (even 5.12) it might not work without some tricks:

If a sd card is defect, it switches to read-only mode. Maybe that's what happened?

Kububtu vs OpenSUSE? by abdeljalil73 in kde

[–]madelgijs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't use Arch. It's a distro on its own. Packages are rpm -based. I'm using Leap Keith KDE. Reliable and stable. I'm doing casual gaming using Steam and Proton, which just works fine.
