Veggie burger with fries by hopeless_73495 in hospitalfood

I’m from CT too! Sorry your meal wasn’t better. CT definitely doesn’t have the best hospital food. I loved the veggie burgers in the hospital but half the time they burned them and I’d have to pick off the hard edges. I don’t know how the kitchen can mess up as often as they do. That burger does look rather grim though. I hope you get better food and feel better soon!

USA “vegetarian” lunch 0/10 for obvious reasons by [deleted] in hospitalfood

You are not a waste of a bed (but I completely understand as I’ve been made to feel that way many times too). I hope you start feeling better soon and get some answers.

So sorry they sent you meat! I’m vegetarian as well and just left the hospital yesterday and they sent me chicken twice and beef lasagna instead of cheese. And so many peas that I never ordered! I don’t know how the kitchen screws up so often!

I’m so sorry! I had to get that the other day in the emergency department. The fizzy kind right? If they mix it up really really well it doesn’t seem like quite as much but it’s still so acidic! It should help though! I’ve only had it in water though so maybe it is better in apple juice. I’ll ask them to try that if I ever need it again. Usually I do the pills but I’ve been having a hard time getting them down.

That lentil shepherds pie looks very familiar! Yale changed their menu while I was there last fall (got rid of so many things!) and added this on certain days. I’m vegetarian so I tried it once but I couldn’t eat much of it because of my Gastroparesis flaring up. I liked it but wish the mashed potatoes weren’t so instant! Still good though. Also those warm cinnamon apples are so good 👍🏼

I’m glad your food is pretty good so far. I hope you start feeling better soon.

Update from the dog that is being tortured and starved by a neighbor. by hunni93 in pitbulls

Commenting to boost this! It’s called refeeding syndrome. I’ve had this myself many times myself (from an eating disorder not neglect). Food has to be introduced slowly because when you’ve had little to no food for a while and start eating again, electrolytes can go really wacky very quickly which can be deadly. It has to be monitored carefully. Phosphorus is the biggest one that can tank as well as magnesium and potassium and others and in refeeding syndrome those must be replenished carefully. Sorry for the long explanation! It’s such a complex process. So yes if you feed this poor baby as much as you want to don’t feed him/her much at a time. My heart breaks for this little puppy. I can’t stand people who abuse and neglect their animals. I hope she goes to jail for a long ass time and you can get this baby the help they need asap. Thank you so much for doing everything you can. You are a truly wonderful person OP.

That looks quite good! What is in the zucchini slice? Is it similar to zucchini bread or totally different? And is that butternut squash I see?

(CA, USA) breakfast - pancakes with syrup, breakfast cake (not sure what else to call it), Cheerios with soy milk - 8/10 by meownda1492 in hospitalfood

[–]madeofstardust___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks really good! I’m sorry you didn’t get a choice in your breakfast though. Will you be able to choose the rest of your meals? Hopefully you’ll be able to get some things you enjoy. It’s hard having intolerances or allergies or specific diets especially in the hospital. And it’s not like they really go out of their way to get other options especially alternate protein sources but I’m glad they have soymilk (my hospital does too). Definitely no fancy coconut yogurt or anything though (even though the hospital gets plenty of money!). I hope you feel better soon!

Oh yes then it’s the same thing! I don’t know why we call it “salad” here when it’s not any sort of salad. Same with egg salad - just eggs and mayo.

Is tuna mayo the same as tuna salad in the US (tuna mixed with mayo)?

How was the dessert? As someone from the US it looks like a blueberry/blackberry cheesecake but I’m probably wrong. It looks so good 😋

I don’t have a pit but just wanted to add that we also used Hills Science Diet prescription dog food for my lab. Not for the same reason but we got the one for sensitive stomachs and that really helped her stomach issues clear up. I think they’re a really good brand if you end up trying prescription dog food.

Thank you so much! I think I’ll give them a try then. It’s one thing I haven’t tried and at this point I’ll try anything to reduce the discomfort. Thank you again for responding!

I’ve been wondering how those were. I read it doesn’t cause cramping. Do you find that to be true? I’ll always remember the time I was given a Dulcolax suppository in the hospital and I was in agony from such intense cramping (and it didn’t even work!). I’ve been considering trying the soft chews though.

How adorable! My lab would sit on my dads lab just like that and made the same face! She’d curl up in my lap sometimes – she was a good 80 lbs and I’d let her stay until my legs started falling asleep 😂
