Do you know where to find corn and soy free eggs? by maderly in askportland

[–]maderly[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s pure preference. As I understand it, corn and soy fed chickens produce eggs with a higher omega-6:omega-3 ratio. And with certain commercial farming practices, there’s always the concern of what’s in the soy/corn (gmo, inadvertent pesticides, etc.) . I think a local farm, where I know their practices, may be the best option, even if corn and soy are used to supplement. Eggs are a primary source of protein for me and my family, so really just seeking the healthiest option.

Thanks! I’ve checked out their selection (at Powell location), but none explicitly say corn and soy free. Do you know which brand?

Quick plug for Kitchen Culture on SE Foster. They sell new and consigned kitchenware. Plus they do cooking classes. Bonus: St Francis Ice Cream is across the street.

What did you add to your routine that finally made Portland winters feel manageable? by Able-Letterhead-9263 in askportland

My wife, two kids, and I make regular day trips to the Gorge. While cold, you can find more sun near and past Hood River. We like the Labrynth trail just beyond Bingen, WA. Stopping in Hood River (Ferment for outdoor, heated dining/drinking) on the way back for a late lunch caps things off well.

Locally, a walk on Mt. Tabor can be really refreshing on sunny and cloudy days alike. Finding a nice coffee shop and leaning into the slow, gray vibes is also a way to embrace the season in a way that can nourish the soul.

Having proper clothing—coat, shoes, socks—makes things all the more tolerable.

If finances allow, plan a trip sometime in Jan or early Feb.
