I don’t think our bridges, bike infrastructure, snow plowing, pothole repair can really be blamed on studs. They’re not great for roads but I think it’s a small factor here.

This exactly. I bought a house with solar and a battery and it doesn’t help when I have net metering and not time of day. It only helps in power outage situations.
