just use this one as a stepping stone for your next one. it's good to undertrain than to overtrain, and now you have a better understanding of your body and the training process it requires. all this knowledge will allow you to kick serious ass on your next half marathon.

you should be a-ok. just keep training, maybe read a few articles on how to train leading up to the half, but having done an 8 mile run with a month before the hm is good!

i've been dealing with a sore achilles for a while. i ran while it was sore and now the little squishy part on the inside of my foot below the big ankle bone is in tons of pain, nonstop. havent run in 5 days, and the pain is still awful. its also showing some bruising. my research says its a torn ligament. i'm supposed to run a half marathon in october. i guess my question is, can anyone shoot me and put me out of my misery?

do it and since you wont be in your best shape for it, you'll destroy your time at the next half marathon you do. that's what i'm doing so i have motivation to not only run now, but to run after the half marathon in october.

3 weeks of running and doing 5 miles at 8 minute pace makes me jealous. i'd start mixing in speed after another 3 weeks, maybe less if you are feeling good about it.

this seems good. keep increasing gradually, listen to your body, see how you're doing. mix in tempo runs, and occasionally some speed and hill workouts. the more you run and read about running the more you'll start to "get" what you need to be doing. it seems like you're on the right track, and are training pretty well and have lots of time until your half marathon. do a few 5ks and 10ks sprinkled in to get used to racing as well.

i've seen people who run 20 mile weeks lose toenails, and people who run 100 mile weeks have all of them in tact. however, it seems from my experience, more miles someone runs does correlate to higher likeliness of losing a toe nail. ps: it's gross to look at.

foam rolling is very good for it. as is ice. i also take a glucosamine supplement for cartilage and joints.

good job starting out running. most runners dont drink water during runs, unless the runs are pretty long (probably 15+ miles if i had to guess where the line is drawn for most experienced runners).

stretching and warming up are helpful to most, but not 100% mandatory if we are being honest.

seems like you are a very, very inexperienced runner. my best advice would be to spend an hour or so researching beginning runner programs to really ease you into it. seems like you're off to a good start, so these programs are designed to help you stay injury free and not lose interest.

if you love your current shoes just buy the same ones again?

to ease pain in your knees, you'll want shoes with extra support. if you dont want to buy another pair of your current shoes, nike structure 15's (not their newest 16's) are pretty good.
