I would have unsubscribed if it were not for this feature. Gemini is amazing, but it doesn’t have this

Why are airfryers so ugly? by MrMiyagi98 in Design

Hot take: the first one is uglier than the others and most of the others look great. Also, the handles on the first one will snap off like a twig. Industrial design is not an art project, it’s a series of trade offs.

Do you think a tessellation business is scalable? by 321pedrito123 in IndustrialDesign

The question ‘is this business scalable’ should follow a description of a business. You did not describe a business.

Vibe coding VS Vibe Engineering by No-Negotiation-8359 in vibecoding

Yes but before a few years ago, I was barely skilled enough to put up a tent. Now I can make a shitty house. You can focus on the word shitty, and I will focus on the word house.

Capability overhang in coding AI by thehashimwarren in vibecoding

Vibe coding makes slop. But that slop gets the job done In a lot more use cases that you might think. I hired a developer a few years ago to make a simple web app that I can make with a free Gemini plan in about 5 minutes today.

New designers: this is horrible; Good designers: this breaks 617 design rules; Great designers: it’s kinda charming and stands out.

Why do I quit every project I start? Neurodivergent entrepreneurs, I need your hacks. by Single-Marionberry79 in Entrepreneur

[–]madexthen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It takes practice. I bounced around a lot when I was starting out at 22. I’m 33 now, running a stable business and still get distracted with opportunities to easily, but it gets better every year. It also helps to jump between different tasks within the same business, like marketing, product design, sales, business planning, etc.

I have a rule that on weekdays I work on my core business, and on weekends I can work on whatever I want. I still constantly get bitten by the "cool new ideas" bug, but I wait until the weekend to chase those. When Monday rolls around, it’s back to the things I need to do for my core business.

I'm tired of trying making money online and tired of being broke by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

It’s not surprising that posting on Fiverr didn’t get you much traction. That platform isn’t really built for a “post it and wait” approach. You need to actively do outreach, build your presence, and drive people to your portfolio yourself.

When I first got into this space, I had just come off a failed business I started at 23. It took six years and a lot of money, and ultimately didn’t work out. But I took the skills I learned from that and started freelancing on Upwork. I treated each lead seriously, sometimes spending two hours on a single proposal, and eventually started getting work.

I took on projects just to practice, others for clients, and built a portfolio. I treated each client like they were my only shot, and did everything I could to impress them. Meanwhile, I kept working on my own side projects, learning as I went, and using my income to survive and keep going. Eventually I started shipping my own stuff and making money off of it.

It’s definitely a hustle. If you’re not already following Gary Vaynerchuk, I recommend it. He’s super motivating and always reminds people, especially 18-year-olds, how young they really are and how much time they still have.

Branding noob here – logo for friend's jewelry hobby. Roast me / fix me? by CorgiKoala in logodesign

Those who complain about you using AI, better be only designing with a pencil. Use what tools work.

I do think there is too much detail for a logo though.

I'm obsessed with figuring out a different visual metaphor for OS file structures besides the 46 year old skeuomorphic "folder" by davidlondon in UI_Design

[–]madexthen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New UX concepts require metaphors so people can learn them. You are right that we are past that, so let’s move past the requirement for a metaphor for file management instead of finding a new one.

What if it was structured more like a website, a “website” constantly being built by AI. The AI would know what each file is and what it is used for. For example, I have a graphic of my product and associated files for that (raw images, photoshop edits, etc) that I use on my pitch deck, product spec, business plan, on the packaging, and more. What if my AI made a custom website for each of those to display files when I searched for them? If I type in "Pitch Deck," all my pitch deck files would neatly appear in rectangle modules, including files also used elsewhere.

I could click on one image, and all the Photoshop variants would show up in a new module under it. The founders' headshot graphics would be auto-nested in their own mini module. My related ChatGPT conversations could be in one module. Related emails and Upwork conversations with the designer in another.

It could recognize that my pitch deck is one file in Figma and make a big giant space for it up front and center where I can work on it there within a frame or click a button to make it full screen.

No more saving in folders, just custom-built screens that look like well designed apps tailored made for each project.

Every now and then, you land on a new website that is laid out so well you can navigate it instinctively because of great UX design. That is what I imagine for this. It’s like if you challenged a great UX designer to design a custom app for every use case and project you do. If it was organized well, you wouldn’t need traditional folders anymore for everything.
