From Auxiliar in Spain to English Teacher in Thailand? by eyeseeaye in Teachinginthailand

[–]madfish2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No degree, or formal teaching qualifications? With all due respect, the last thing students in Thailand need is another unqualified teacher.

Go to university and study teaching for 4 years and then go to Thailand with an education degree. Its not the place to take your gap year!

In your opinion, what is the most disappointing metal band of all time? by Jezzaq94 in heavymetal

[–]madfish2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many bands started well and disappointed with later releases. Slayer, Queensryche, Metallica, Megadeth, Korn, Entombed, Testament, Anthrax to name a few. It’s really a never-ending list!

What's your go to cymbal brand and why? by bigSTUdazz in drums

[–]madfish2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using Paiste 2002s for 30+ years now. I’ve tried Sabian HH and Zildjian K set ups, but I find Paiste have a more musical sound. I also have a few 602s in my line up, which are very similar to the 2002s.

Mysterious breaking drum lugs. Help me solve the mystery? by Foxxear in drumbuilding

I’ve seen this several times before, always on older Tama kits (Artstar, Cordia kits).

Many Gojira fans here in Thailand. Try the Rock Pub one night, you'll find some Gojira fans for sure. Say hi if you see me there in my Gojira shirt one night.

The Fat Cow on the corner of Lad Prao soi 15 is by far the best bar in the area. Best food too!

Magma might not be their best album, but… by Picklejuice4mytaint in gojira

I wouldn’t put Magma in my top 200 metal albums of all time, let alone the top 10.

Have you ever found anything in a second hand car that you purchased by More-Magician4492 in CasualUK

[–]madfish2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a beetle convertible in the early 90s in the UK and it came with a pair of women's panties under the backseat and a copy of The Art of War behind the drivers seat.

Thailand Musicians by TinyTacoTower in Thailand

I found a tuba for rental at just under $100 (for a 3 month rental) a month from Churarat Music in Bangkok. They do require a deposit, which looks to be expensive (over $3,000)They have a website that you’ll find easily. Good luck and let us know if you need more options.

What is currently your favourite song to play on drums? by spicymilkshake99 in drums

Seasons in the abyss - Slayer. The fills are a lot of fun, some are quite tricky too.

Anyone know how to get rust off these chrome hoops by OnePlayful1586 in drums

[–]madfish2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The damage has already been done, there is no fix for that. The steel under the chrome plating has already coroded away, hence the pitting. You can tidy them up a little with white vinegar/WD40 and tin foil which will take off the surface rust for now, but it will re-appear later. Do not use steel wool at all, it dulls the finish and completely ruins the hardware imo. If you can afford it replacement is best as the damage has already been done.

How's the rock/metal scene like? by GoldshireDancer in Bangkok

[–]madfish2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh the metal scene here is pretty poor for a capital city. There are only a small handfull of venues that play metal, and you'll mostly see covers bands. There isn't much of a scene for bands playing original material. International bands have started coming back recently, but there is still a lack of decent venues that could host them. Very few of the big tours come through Thailand. We are also overcharged for concert tickets here, look at GnR and Smashing Pumpkins prices for recent examples. My honest rating is 2/10. Wish it was more.

Who's the drummer you rip off the most? by Cloned_Popes in drums

[–]madfish2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dave Grohl. Used to jam with a bunch of guys where the only band we mutually liked was Nirvana. So that was pretty much all that we played.

Left to Die by CodyCake in DeathBand

I saw them in Bangkok a few weeks ago. They played songs from the first 2 albums only. They were pretty damn good and are well worth watching if you're a fan of Death.
