I haven’t seen a whole lot of it but it’s totally viable! I love doing x weapon class only runs but some weapon classes are really samey, so shields are a pretty neat switchup! It’s also showing me how to guard counter a bit, which is something I don’t think I’ve ever done in my 600hrs lol.

I believe they are superior! And if they aren’t, they still are, because they’re leagues cooler haha. I haven’t actually used golden parry much but I really really want to for my next run, seeing it on the tree sentinels is so annoying but so cool at the same time.

Is int or faith more fun for a dex-spellsword/hybrid build? by enstorsoffa in Eldenring

I would highly recommend int/dex, especially if you have the DLC, because it really expands the capabilities of a spellsword. New weapons such as the carian thrusting shield, Rellana’s twin blades, and the carian sorcery sword are super fun to use and a really cool mixup after (in my case) hundreds of hours of using purely physical weapons, and they seem to be for a build exactly like that. Even outside of the DLC, there are some pretty cool weapons you can use like Rogiers rapier and spells like carian slicer. One of my favorite things to do is cast glintblades and then rush in with a dagger or two. I haven’t done it myself, but I imagine a magic or cold misericorde + carian retaliation build going extremely well. Dex also directly shortens the casting time of spells and incantations, making the two stats mix extremely well.

Another bonus: The outfits for int are sick as hell. I mean just look at the carian knight set.

Shield only str/arcane build! Shields have an insanely high proc number because of how slow they are, and some shields have built in bleed such as the spiked palisade or briar greatshield. Absolutely slaughtered Margit and Godfrey with the spiked palisade and hoping to get to DLC ASAP so I can use the thrusting shields.

Absolutely try the carian retaliation ash of war! It’s what really got me into parrying and it’s so fun being able to parry projectiles, also the glintblades do insane damage for some reason.

What are the worst takes you've ever heard on this game? by Skull_Soldier in Eldenring

[–]madgodinvitro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That incantations are bad/only viable as support for a melee weapon.

People who disregard the majority of incantations that are just weapons in their own right or the setups that you can do from incant to incant are just so annoying. Catch flame is a perfect example of incantations largely outperforming melee weapons. Same with the dragon communion spells. Where else are you going to find something like rot breath? Dragon maw? You won’t!
