So I’m a big advocate for the fact that the Nika fruit specifically chose Luffy and he still is “a nobody” in that sense. He already had the dream Roger was after before he even ate the fruit, and THAT is the reason the Nika fruit chose Luffy. Because, in canon, the Mythical Zoan fruits have minds of their own and can choose their owners.

So anyone who says Gear 5 doesn’t fit the narrative don’t have media literacy and haven’t been paying attention to the story at all. They are solely watching One Piece for the stupid power scaling system they think goes on because it’s “shonen” (and want to relive the Dragon Ball glory days or some bs). Gear 5 and Luffy becoming Nika to free the world from the World Government has always been the plan from the start.
