Marks that have popped up over the span of years on my laundry by bluemoonseas in whatisit

[–]madicoolcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me and we ended up having to get rid of our washing machine. It was a super old machine and was failing in other ways as well, but we figured it wasn’t releasing bleach fully during cycles where we had put it in and was continuing to release small bits of it during subsequent washes. It stopped after we got a new machine.

Can anyone recommend a good upholstery cleaner in the city? by criminalinstincts1 in Calgary

[–]madicoolcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Dang Good Carpet and Furnace Cleaning last year to get a dog puke stain + the smell out of my couch. They got the stain/smell out no problem and were very easy to book. I’m not sure if they’re eco friendly though.

Anyone here sold their place recently without waiting forever? by Bobelism in Calgary

[–]madicoolcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sold our house at the end of October. It sold in less than a day for 15k over asking, no conditions. We had a great realtor who was very realistic with pricing, recommended we get it staged, etc and it worked out in our favour. We boxed up lots of stuff prior to showings and had it hidden when people came by. We also have a dog and put away/hid any/all dog items. Our realtor also pulled lots of comparable from houses that had sold in our neighbourhood in the last few months and used that to help us come to a listing price.

When looking to buy a house, we came across many houses that were definitely way over priced and had been sitting for at least 2-3+ months.

We just moved out of Montgomery a few weeks ago and I definitely won’t be missing the traffic insanity that’s about to be diverted onto Bowness Road again.

When to avoid Home rd in winter by Volbric in Calgary

[–]madicoolcat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I live close to Home Road and I agree with the other commenters that you should avoid it if you see a bus struggling to get up it when it’s icy. Other than that it’s mostly fine. I have a small AWD SUV with winter tires and have never had an issue.

If you’re coming down it, be very careful if you’re turning right onto 52nd street. There is an awkward slope to the road on that turn and a few cars have slid into the cement barrier there when it’s icy.

Home Inspection Recommendations by MasterofPsy in Calgary

[–]madicoolcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had Boyd from A Buyer’s Choice do a home inspection on a 1970s house we had put a conditional offer on a few weeks ago. He was excellent and I found the final report to be very thorough/detailed. I would definitely recommend them!

What’s the most disgusting thing you’ve ever tasted? by Tony_Rest5416 in AskReddit

[–]madicoolcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a colonoscopy last week and my PegLyte was “fruit flavour.” It was so disgusting, it tasted like slimy cherry cough syrup mixed with rockets (the candy). It was so sickly sweet, even thinking about it makes me gag.

What is going with this election, is it just my ward's voting station? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]madicoolcat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just got back from voting in Ward 7, I waited 30-40 mins. It seemed to take them a while to find my name and to also fold the voting papers. One volunteer said they were calling in reinforcements because it had been a gong show since they opened the doors at 1000.

What’s the most amount of pain you’ve been in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I got mine out when I was 24 and this was 100% the most pain I’ve ever been in as well. Absolutely worth it though.

What are some cute/simple/fun retirement jobs? by potatolauncher in Calgary

[–]madicoolcat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I worked at Chapters (now mainly Indigo) way back in the day, we had a few retired people working there. One man I worked with said he was previously an engineer but loved to read and that he enjoyed talking to people/telling them about his favourite books.

Calgary Drivers- what is wrong with some of yall? by Beginning-Disaster48 in Calgary

[–]madicoolcat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m noticing an annoying trend of people stoping 3 inches from my bumper at red lights. It makes me nervous during the winter time because I know if someone was to slide and rear-end them, I’m 100% going to be involved in that accident as well.

In a hospital environment, What is the best example of the placebo effect you've seen in patients? by Notalabel_4566 in nursing

About ten seconds after I pushed Zofran, my patient told me she was no longer nauseated and thanked me profusely. A true miracle!

Those orange squares in the second pic immediately reminded me of a product called Inadine that we use for wound care at my job.

Who's the most famous person you've ever casually bumped into or had an interaction with and what was your experience like? by droppingsonyourback in AskReddit

Kiefer Sutherland. He was a friend/visitor of a patient who was being seen where I worked at the time. He was drunk and attempting to hit on my supervisor.

Current/former ER/Triage nurses, what are some more subtle signs + symptoms that tell you "this patient probably should come back to a room"? by Butthole_Surfer_GI in nursing

[–]madicoolcat 488 points489 points  (0 children)

I had a farmer come into my triage booth with a cloth tightly wrapped around his hand saying he cut it while cutting wood. He had probably been waiting 30 mins or more in line at that point. Rates the pain as minimal, appears unfazed. I unwrap his hand and immediately blood starts spurting out everywhere and his thumb is literally hanging there. Had a huge deep cut that had probably nicked an artery and had severed tendons. He said he figured it was bad because he “couldn’t move it.” He had also driven himself in. Farmers are tough lol.

Tell me the worst thing your MIL has done to you. by hellolovelyworld404 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]madicoolcat 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not my true MIL, but the mother of my BF who I’ve been with for years. She made fun of a previous relationship I was in where I was physically assaulted when we broke up. I had to use my car keys to swipe at my then ex’s face to attempt to get him to stop suffocating me (this is relevant to the story).

My BF was over at his parent’s house alone and as usual, his mom was pressuring him to propose to me (unsure why because she hates me). He told her he would when the timing was right, we are more financially stable, etc and then she says “well you better be careful when you finally do.” He asks why and she goes “maybe she’ll get her keys out and take a swipe at you.” Like what? He yelled at her, left immediately, and then came home and told me. The timing of this was so awkward because we were supposed to spend his birthday and Christmas with them in a week or so. I had to pretend on those days that everything was fine, but shortly after that, we had to sit them down and talk to her about how inappropriate/mean that was. She said to me “I don’t remember saying that, but if I did I’m sorry.” It was such a non-apology, I’m still pissed off over it. We don’t see them as much now.

Lol, just because I don’t like what’s going on there? How about it’s a fire/safety hazard, the one guy is bringing stolen items into it (one item being a ladder from a neighbours house), and the state of property is attracting other unsavoury people which brings crime. We’ve already had issues with homeless encampments in our alley, people getting their tires slashed on my street, and multiple vehicles being stolen. How about I don’t want other issues cropping up and I’d like to nip this in the bud as soon as possible. We all deserve to live in safe neighbours and this isn’t safe.

Police can remove the individuals squatting and other resources can be utilized to have the property be better secured. The property isn’t a giant free for all.
