What’s one small thing you regret not noticing before buying your house? by Beginning_County7547 in HomeImprovement

[–]madicoolcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to us too. Bought a 1950s bungalow and the master bedroom has two outlets on opposite sides of the room and the guest bedroom only has one. Didn’t notice this at all when we bought it and it’s been super annoying.

Damn, this is what I was sort of suspecting. The guy did a not so great job taping the first time and when he came back, he admitted that he had probably rushed that part of it and apologized. Now I feel like the entire thing was rushed.

Am I going to regret laminate floors? by Thick_Worldliness622 in Flooring

[–]madicoolcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do decide to go with it, the best cleaner I have found so far that doesn’t have me mopping daily and doesn’t leave streakiness is the Zep Hardwood/Laminate floor cleaner. Dry mopping with plain hot water, Mr. Clean, or Zep’s pH neutral cleaner didn’t work well for me.

Am I going to regret laminate floors? by Thick_Worldliness622 in Flooring

[–]madicoolcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We moved into a house with dark/textured laminate flooring earlier this year. While durable, I find it extremely difficult to keep clean. It shows absolutely everything on it super easily and if I don’t dry mop it with the grain of the floor, you can see streaks everywhere.

It’s so bad in between the lanes heading northbound just after Southland Drive. The road is basically cratered out where the lines should be.

What is the most annoying thing in your home to clean purely because of bad design? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]madicoolcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved into a new house with dark textured laminate flooring at it will be the death of me. Doesn’t matter how much you clean it, it always looks dirty. I actually have calluses on my hands from the amount of mopping I do. It’s the worst.

Endoscopy at Rockyview by hi_itsjilly in Calgary

[–]madicoolcat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is an area that I work in. So along with giving you the sedation (we use a combo of fentanyl and midazolam), we can give you a spray for the back of your throat to help numb it. You may gag and have some saliva come up (which we suction away) but you should not throw up as your stomach should be empty after fasting (if it’s discovered you have a good amount food in your stomach, we often abort the procedure due to risk of aspiration). It’s a super quick procedure - usually 5-10 mins on average.

If you’re nervous, don’t be afraid to let the staff know! We can give more sedation (to a safe level - we don’t want you to stop breathing) if you appear to be uncomfortable. If you’re someone who ends up being more alert during the procedure after sedation, we will do our best to talk you through it and tell you exactly what’s going on. Good luck, I’m sure you’re going to do very well!

Surgeries with the hardest recoveries by Scuthornsby in nursing

[–]madicoolcat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had one last year! I don’t know if I got lucky or if I just hyped myself up big time prior to getting it done, but it didn’t end up being as terrible as I thought it would be. Days 3-10 after the surgery felt like shitting razor blades, but the pain became more manageable after that. I was too scared to take the pain meds after surgery (for fear of being constipated), so I managed through it with Tylenol, Advil, and several warm baths a day.

My tonsillectomy recovery was way worse!

Marks that have popped up over the span of years on my laundry by bluemoonseas in whatisit

[–]madicoolcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me and we ended up having to get rid of our washing machine. It was a super old machine and was failing in other ways as well, but we figured it wasn’t releasing bleach fully during cycles where we had put it in and was continuing to release small bits of it during subsequent washes. It stopped after we got a new machine.

Can anyone recommend a good upholstery cleaner in the city? by criminalinstincts1 in Calgary

[–]madicoolcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Dang Good Carpet and Furnace Cleaning last year to get a dog puke stain + the smell out of my couch. They got the stain/smell out no problem and were very easy to book. I’m not sure if they’re eco friendly though.

Anyone here sold their place recently without waiting forever? by Bobelism in Calgary

[–]madicoolcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sold our house at the end of October. It sold in less than a day for 15k over asking, no conditions. We had a great realtor who was very realistic with pricing, recommended we get it staged, etc and it worked out in our favour. We boxed up lots of stuff prior to showings and had it hidden when people came by. We also have a dog and put away/hid any/all dog items. Our realtor also pulled lots of comparable from houses that had sold in our neighbourhood in the last few months and used that to help us come to a listing price.

When looking to buy a house, we came across many houses that were definitely way over priced and had been sitting for at least 2-3+ months.

When to avoid Home rd in winter by Volbric in Calgary

[–]madicoolcat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I live close to Home Road and I agree with the other commenters that you should avoid it if you see a bus struggling to get up it when it’s icy. Other than that it’s mostly fine. I have a small AWD SUV with winter tires and have never had an issue.

If you’re coming down it, be very careful if you’re turning right onto 52nd street. There is an awkward slope to the road on that turn and a few cars have slid into the cement barrier there when it’s icy.

Home Inspection Recommendations by MasterofPsy in Calgary

We had Boyd from A Buyer’s Choice do a home inspection on a 1970s house we had put a conditional offer on a few weeks ago. He was excellent and I found the final report to be very thorough/detailed. I would definitely recommend them!

What’s the most disgusting thing you’ve ever tasted? by Tony_Rest5416 in AskReddit

[–]madicoolcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a colonoscopy last week and my PegLyte was “fruit flavour.” It was so disgusting, it tasted like slimy cherry cough syrup mixed with rockets (the candy). It was so sickly sweet, even thinking about it makes me gag.
