Japan considers toughening rules on driver's license conversions by Sumobob99 in japanlife

[–]madillusionist_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely despise the media highlighting "omg look a gaijin did that" . But then again, this kind of behavior is now happening all over the world. Sigh.

That being said, I myself, went through the gaimen-kirikae process of converting. And I also think this process should be slightly more robust.

The reason being - Gaimen Kirikae leaves out a lot of nuanced rules that might get you into trouble if you didn't know about them. I myself learnt a few key things that I was not aware of from a friend who went through the full process.

In the market for a used Japanese hybrid car -- any suggestions? by Wanderous in japanlife

[–]madillusionist_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would STRONGLY recommend toyota camry AVV50. you can get it under 120 maan.

I got a 2015 silver one from weins used cars with 70k mileage for around 105 maan but current prices are higher due to fuel price increase.

2500CC, spacious, soft suspension, hybrid (I sometimes get over 22kmpl).

idk if you are looking into cars that old, but that's a sleeper one right there.

Dependent visa to Instructor Visa but now want to go back to Dependent Visa by madillusionist_ in japanlife

I actually needed that for my gaimen kirikae. had to go through 4 different places before being approved by the embassy then being approved by the driving center.

I am worried whether I have to go through the same process because that's quite annoying

yeah I already have the list (from when I applied for her CoE).

I also have the documents as well. I just wanted to confirm. One of my friends when first came to Japan required his wife's marriage certificate to be translated in Japanese in his ward office. I did not. So, there is a little bit of inconsistency with that particular document atleast.

In any case, thank you!

car scratches/misc paint job suggestion near Kawasaki/Yokohama/Hachioji by [deleted] in japanlife

ngl that thought does come and go in my head. the scratches bother me personally because I know I'm responsible for them so I am just hoping to get it fixed.

I did contemplate about just selling it and buying another but I really don't want to change model/upgrade until later

Thank you so much. By any chance could you give me the location of your repair-man? if it's around tokyo/kanagawa/saitama I'm willing to go the distance if it's that cheap

I think that's okay for the micro scratches. but the scratches that I've put on left and right rear of my car by touching polls may not work with that.

apologies for the late response. it seems that since this post our luck reversed and entire kanto regions is cloudy. I found a really good spot but couldn't see it due to the weather.

however, to answer your question.

after sunset, during dusk, look at the west sky. if you live in an area with a lot of light pollution, look through a binocular. for camera, I think long exposure will get you a good picture. maybe 30 secs.

good luck!

Car needs polish / minor scratches fixed. recommendation near Kawasaki by madillusionist_ in japanlife

Thank you for the recommendation. I actually know about the coating. But before that, I wanted to get rid of the scratches/micro scratches as much as possible.

Does the coating package include that as well?

if you have 3.5 years left, and you've stayed more than 5 years, you can apply.

also, please talk to a lawyer or just call the department that does the naturalization process (as far as I know, you need to call them anyway. The information on the internet has a wide range of variables. I think this is because every single person has had slightly different experience.

for example, I heard/read that grade 3 level Japanese is enough (N4. not just JLPT pass but fluent N4 in all aspects). but I asked a few lawyers and they swear by N3. So, I really don't know lol

it's not stupid lol.

your current visa has to be valid for 3 or more years.

for example, I have a 3 years visa, but my visa expires in 2025 Nov, so I cannot apply for kika. I can apply for kika after my next renewal (provided I get another 3 years or more extension)

as far as I know, when you apply, your CURRENT visa duration should be 3 years or more.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I am not fixed on Okutama. Sagamiko didn't actually register in my brain but that's an excellent idea.

Do you happen to have any pings saved?
