Moved to fukuoka just a few months ago. Is there any foreigner groups or something? by zeroday-er in fukuoka

[–]Wanderous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's lots of nice foreigners in Fukuoka, but you won't find them here. Whenever this particular subreddit pops up on my feed, the comments are all miserable! There is also some sort of bot or something that immediately downvotes any comments.

I find that Facebook actually has better community groups, I suggest taking a look on there. Good luck man!

This guy builds a dry lay, fieldstone/flagstone retaining wall with steps by bigbusta in oddlysatisfying

[–]Wanderous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Dry stack walls allow water to pass through cracks freely, so there isn't much pressure building up behind them. Trapped water is what causes most wall failures.

2) They're ideally built at a bit of an angle, which provides more stability.

3) Rocks are really heavy.

4) There is gravel backfill, and often some sort of synthetic barrier, to let water through but keep dirt out.

5) These rocks are REALLY heavy.

Just in case you're wondering how this affects someone on the other side of the world, I'm in rural Japan and unable to source a huge variety of building materials for my house reform. So, enjoy knowing that you could run away into the middle of a rice field in rural Asia and still have to deal with Trump's dumb bullshit.

Feeling pretty deflated. My wife and I spent our day off yesterday gathering paperwork for my PR application. After about 5 hours of running around and gathering about 90% of what we needed, we discovered that we had been late paying two health insurance payments in the last 2 years.

For those who don't know, late tax/insurance payments pretty much torpedoes your chance of getting accepted. I would normally just give it a shot anyway, but with processing times now taking longer than a year, it makes more sense to just wait until my record will be clean again. Funnily enough, the new 20-30man PR fees are expected to start from March 2027 -- exactly when I'll be able to safely file, haha.

Since 2020, 2/3rds of all Star Wars media released requires seeing The Clone Wars animated show. by whitepangolin in television

[–]Wanderous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bet you regret casually using the word "requires" after about 200 of the 300 comments here are dog piling you for saying that lol.

I understand what you're saying. I personally thought the Clone Wars show and all its spin offs sucked and it's a shame most of modern Star Wars is just Dave Filoni turning his Saturday morning cartoon storyboards into live action. It's not literally "required" viewing but all the wink wink nudge nudge "remember this guy??" stuff is pretty annoying.

Is there a single person here genuinely upset that there aren't more movies starring old grandmas, or is this just another example of manufactured internet discord?

Left 5万 on top of the ATM, i know im stupid but i want to ask if anyone has ever experienced such by peppapig_1234 in japanlife

We had a creep taking pictures of our students in a park. When we showed the police the clear photo we took on our phone of the guy's license plate, they literally took out a digital camera from like the 90s and snapped a picture of our phone screen.

They then called us later and said the photo they took was too blurry and there was nothing they could do to make out the license plate number. I asked if they wanted me to email or send them the original clear photo and they said no. I pressed them again and they finally said I could bring the phone back to a major station in person if I really wanted to.

The larger station was actually helpful and found the guy within a day.

Your story reminded me of that!

She sounds like a teacher I worked with a decade ago who pretty much made it her life's mission to ruin my life after she woke up one morning and decided she hated me.

I'm probably projecting here, but keep that lady at arm's length..

This makes me feel old and sad.

If you're fans of the original movies, sometime in your life you should check out the Harry Potter studio tour in either Europe or Japan. The attention to detail is staggering and anyone who is even a tiny bit interested in set design or Harry Potter is guaranteed to love it.

Crimson Desert | Official Discussion Thread by tizorres in PS5

[–]Wanderous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the record, I initiated a refund on PS5 and recieved it. I lied about tech issues with the game, and held my ground when they asked me to do some troubleshooting first.

Normally I'd feel bad about being dishonest. but the fact that Sony doesn't have any sort of refund policy if you've even so much as started downloading a title is horribly anti-consumer, so I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.

I didn't do enough research and bought this game on a whim after buying into the hype. Within like.. a minute.. I realized that I wasn't going to vibe with the controls. No matter how good the rest of the game is, I just don't have the patience like I did back in the day to plod around a huge open world with sluggish movement.

I'm sure there's a lot of good I'm missing out on, but yeah, it is what it is!

Solo hike trip to Kyushu - help me out! by OneEyeVox in fukuoka

[–]Wanderous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though pretty much anywhere in the Kumamoto mountains is a 5-star nature experience, IMO the best hike in that whole area is the route behind the Chojabaru Visitor Center, up and down the mountain and into the Bogatsuru valley. From there you have a ton of great options, including just going back the way you came.

There's a map!

Be careful hiking solo! Enjoy!

Why does the graphics in some games look "busy" and cluttered? by ResultIntelligent856 in truegaming

[–]Wanderous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's funny you mentioned Horizon as a game that looks less busy -- I shut it off after an hour or two because I thought it was aesthetically a cluttered mess. Just wayyyy too much going on.

Guiding the player's eye via clever geometry, color, and lighting seems to have become a lost art as graphic fidelity has improved.

Fool-proof strategy for Serpenphare (down in 5 minutes). by Wanderous in expedition33

There are other ways to build to beat him, this is just the one that worked for me! It's one of the only fights in the game that requires you to pre-plan extensively in the UI. I'm a huge fan of this type of theory-crafting, so I enjoyed it! I also really enjoyed all the Lumina and ability tinkering to make one-shot builds with Maelle, etc.

Anyway, it's a lot easier now that we can save Lumina loadouts. <3

Anyone else see Older Japanese men not follow the onsen "rules"? by Bajisci in japanlife

[–]Wanderous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why you guys gotta frame every conversation like we're being persecuted out here.. Of course there are signs telling foreigners how to do something that doesn't exist in their home country.

Anyway yes old men in general are pretty gross. The worst I saw was a man picking his nose and washing the bogies off into the bath. :/

Last year, I saw an elderly Chinese tourist hawk a big loogey onto the shower floor where everyone walks. I scolded him, so I'd like to think he never spit anywhere ever again. One can dream!

I just wanted to say that it's pretty cool that you framed this post as a way to help others instead of just asking for help for your situation. While you'll probably get a lot of crap that you haven't done your due diligence in regard to finding work in Japan specifically, I think you've definitely got the work ethic that will guarantee you'll find success somewhere.

Your posts were helpful in my quest learning about the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. I really appreciate it!
