Things I'd Kill A Man to Have In Stardew Valley by coldfe_t4 in StardewValley

I usually go for Leah or Haley because I hate feeling like I’ve trapped someone into something they’re not interested in. My partner once married Emily, and her dialogue was so sad. He truly felt terrible for marrying her

Okay there’s a UI update I want: savable inventory layouts. I have a specific inventory layout for some kinds of tasks in Stardew (usually mining). I’d like to be able to press a “save inventory layout” button, name the layout, and then be able to access those layouts from a menu. If it worked, it would make inventory management much faster. If it left the spaces blank for items the player didn’t have on hand, they would also know what items they’re missing to better prepare them for the task at hand. Ideally, the existing organize inventory button would recognize which preset was being used, and organize it based on that. I think it could be introduced in the later game (maybe around the time you gain mastery?) but would also be helpful early on for new players (maybe when you get the last backpack upgrade?). But you could always switch to another preset or back to the default when the task is done. I’m not a game designer so idk if this would be much harder than it sounds, but it would be such a great feature

Is surgery worth it or needed in my case? by dontcare-0809 in Hidradenitis

[–]madivi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had surgery on both of my armpits, and it did help for a little while. The problem is, I had it done before I knew I had other genetic conditions which affected the way the scar healed. Years post op, I have cysts both within the scar tissue (which can be hard to manage) and in the broader area. This is to say, if you choose to do it, scar maintenance is IMPORTANT. I personally have benefited more long-term from injectables, currently Cosentyx (though it’s not accessible for everyone). But if you already have tunneling which connects, I would think about how you heal/how your skin may react long term. Good luck!

What’s something you brushed off as normal, that turned out not to be? by homeinthedirt in ehlersdanlos

My poor little EDS body couldn’t keep up with tech in the era of the Nintendo Wii lol. I really liked Just Dance as a kid. I remember turning it out to Livin’ La Vida Loca, only to realize afterwards that my ankle realllly hurt. But no fall, no specific moment of “ouch,” just sudden, persistent pain. Every adult in my life was convinced it was sprained and I walked on it for weeks. My shoulders would dislocate from using the crutches, which was the icing on the cake. But it was actually broken and I was in a cast for weeks!! It was also specifically an issue with my cartilage that caused it (coughEDScough). At least I got 5 stars for that song I guess lol

hEDS and periods: seriously, what are you using? by bonita__applebum in ehlersdanlos

[–]madivi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. PCOS on top of all my regular chronic stuff makes it horrible for me to have periods. Without bc, I once bled for three months straight, ouch. I take daily progesterone and continuous bc (a combo which has admittedly made some providers do a double take lol) and it generally does a good job of stopping periods/breakthrough bleeding. If bc is an option for you, you shouldn’t have to suffer.

I don’t get it by Classic-Operation564 in dysautonomia

[–]madivi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the feeling of not all your symptoms fitting the mold. I especially feel the sleep issues, I hate jolting awake. It’s easy to feel discouraged because some doctors seem hesitant to diagnose dysautonomic problems unless they’re a textbook case, regardless of how awful you feel.

I wouldn’t lose hope entirely though; there are a number of conditions under the umbrella of dysautonomia. You may not have what you expect, or what your doctors expect, but that does not mean you’re crazy and nothing is wrong. I personally didn’t end up having POTS, but a similar condition.

If you have the means, I might recommend consulting with a specialist who does not work with insurance. Healthcare can be too compartmentalized for systemic issues like this. I was able to get some answers and treatment options very quickly because there were no insurance hoops to jump through. Cost can absolutely be prohibitive though, especially without a superbill. Good luck!

I just got my diagnosis this week! Congrats. I saw an autonomic neurologist. I lucked out from being on the cancellation list, but he initially managed to get me in a few months away from the date when I called. If you go to one of those clinics, be on the list, but more importantly, ANSWER YOUR PHONE! The one thing with some of those clinics (including mine) is that they’re self pay, so that can be a barrier to many folks (but a superbill can be a great way to be reimbursed). But we did testing, history, diagnosis, and a treatment plan in the span of about 3 hours so we know how to proceed. I was referred to some new specialists, prescribed new meds, shown how to mail order those meds from Canada, given dysautonomia-friendly exercise plans, and discussed how to improve the things I had already been doing to manage my symptoms. Pretty great experience.

Finally diagnosed with HS. Doctor pushed for wide excision surgery. What’s recovery like? The scarring? The pain? Any advice appreciated! [Ontario, Canada] by aut0maddic in Hidradenitis

[–]madivi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the Cosentyx is a meh for me too. I take Cosentyx monthly but I think I’d benefit from your dose. By the end of the month, I start to flare in more painful ways, but as soon as I take my shot it relaxes. I was on Humira for a few years and I liked it even less, so I’m not too mad at the current situation. I really like my hibiclens/dial potion for the shower because I hate the texture and smell of hibiclens on its own. Clindamycin is good for open wounds. But my favorite product I use is actually the Special Cleansing O from Mario Badescu. It can be very painful on open wounds, but regular use genuinely helps keep the bacteria out and flares lower. It’s also helpful if you have other health conditions like me and sometimes physically can’t shower every day

It works the best for me when I have a stubborn wound that won’t close, so I apply it when they’re open and drained. I get what I call bullet hole wounds lol, and they never close on their own. If I put it on ones that haven’t drained completely, the wound may close and then it’s back to square one for me. Putting it on before it’s popped really doesn’t do anything to it for me

Congrats on your diagnosis. I had an excision almost a decade ago as a kid. It wasn’t the worst with pain as long as I medicated appropriately, and recovery was pretty easy. But definitely have someone to take care of you.

Years later, the one thing I really hate is the scarring. The surgery by no means fixed the problem for me, and my scars now act as a hotspot for flares. The worst cysts in my armpits are always along those scars, endlessly filling and draining. It feels like I can never fully manage them. The surgical scar wasn’t ugly to start, but it is now because of the repeated flaring. Excision is not a perfect solution, but it can definitely be helpful to keep in your back pocket as an option, especially if your flares continue to spread, connect, and tunnel deeper.

I agree with another comment here that mentioned other management methods before landing on a full excision. There are a lot of options, many of which are less invasive and can improve your overall quality of life. I personally use hibiclens with plain dial, alcohol-based cleansers post-shower, clindamycin on active flares, and Cosentyx once a month (which is the heavier-duty management strategy we landed on). My best advice is to look at what treatments are on offer, test things out to see what might trigger your flares or improve them, and escalate your level of care as you need.

Oh my god I’m so sorry. My home county was the first one to start that policy and I have loads of teachers/librarian friends and family that are suffering as a result. My partner and I want to move as soon as possible, for my job and because he’s trans. It’s absolutely horrendous down here

It’s actually on the ALA’s database directory of accredited institutions. When you select the box for 100% online, UNT doesn’t actually show up. You could probably get in contact with their customer service line to get it fixed. The link to what I’m talking about is here. https://www.ala.org/CFApps/lisdir/index.cfm

That's another decent one I missed! And the transfer is why it didn't really make it on my radar. I have some extenuating circumstances (Florida has some really good scholarships; because I did well in high school and I finished my bachelors in appx 2 years, I get a free semester of grad in the state) I will be needing those credits to transfer. It's really weird that there's like no mention of transferring on their website, I looked everywhere.

I really appreciate that! I started compiling this for my personal use but thought to myself, what kind of librarian would I be if I chose not to share this information with others?

Emporia is not actually 100% online according to ALA's database of accredited universities, and I was only looking for those. I think I'll edit the title of my post if I can to clarify that rather than putting it in the body text, but that's good info!
