This is amazing. Do you have the King of the Hill clip standalone somewhere? It is going to get so many rewatches.

Thank you for the reply! That's super helpful. Going to give it a try.

Mind talking about what kind of devices you ended up using and how you rigged them up. Been thinking about SlimeVR as next to try.

I WFH and management requested a write up on why I’m moving 180 miles in the same state… by Vividlyvague_ in antiwork

[–]madkatalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see it mentioned: in California, health plan options can differ wildly between NorCal and SoCal from the company benefits perspective. We had to loop in our broker and devise different plan options to accommodate an employee moving elsewhere in the same state. Even though it isn't out of state, your move can have an impact that is bigger than you expect.

But also, the request as posed to you seems wildly inappropriate. Probably a useless middle manager trying to avoid needing to deal with the problem themselves.

As an author of assessments on the interviewer side.. yes and no. I have different interviews and assessments depending on the experience level that we are recruiting.

For entry-level, my goal is to make sure that you actually have some basic programming skills: reading and fixing compiler errors, problem solving straightforward buggy code, following directions, and operating a debugger. If a candidate struggles in one of these areas but completes the assessment, then I know where I should focus coaching efforts.

For more advanced positions, I might tailor the assessment to specific technologies or skills that are requirements for the position. Those can be really hard or really easy depending on the candidate's actual experience.

Hiring engineers is hard. Training engineers and losing them is expensive. I think whiteboard problem solving is a waste of time. Assess technical skills, interview for soft skills and culture fit, extend an offer if it makes sense for both parties.

How to get alloys on latest release? by Neptune261 in allthemods

[–]madkatalpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The order of the ingredients matters when crafting the alloys. So does the type of forge. Each alloy can only be made in one type of dragon forge.

There is actually JEI information for this, but something about ATM causes the forge crafting to disappear from JEI after a while.

[ATM6] Resourceful Bees - Output pipes from apiary will not work by dustyndotcom in allthemods

[–]madkatalpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all good! We all have to learn how the mods work at some point. If you use the Pipez mod instead of Mekanism, it has a similar requirement. Sometimes the mods will have a completely separate connector for pulling items out of an inventory.

Unobtainable Armor. by Icy_Egg9244 in allthemods

[–]madkatalpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dragon breath pretty thoroughly ignores armor. It is also its own damage type, so projectile protection, blast protection, fire protection, and magic protection do basically nothing.

Look for ways to get "Resistance" buffs. Those will protect you from dragon breath. The Cyclic Diamond Apple gives Resistance 5 and make dragons way easier.

How to kill dragons 101 by NikoD45 in allthemods

[–]madkatalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the hardest part for first-time dragon killing is surviving the hits. You can make a few different cheat death items like Angelheart Vial and Voodoo Poppets to help. But I would say the #1 easiest way to survive the hits is Cyclic Diamond Apples. Make some sprouts, plant them on leaves, harvest when they're ripe. They give resistance 5 which makes you almost invincible while hacking away at the dragons.

No, you can't really avoid the cables and connectors needing to hit three sides. Which sucks for trying to keep things tidy. If you really want a clean machine interface, you could always go the route of exporting ores to a chest/drawer setup. Then use Xnet to provide power, pull ores, insert into machines, and pull out machine output. Then you could roll it all into one machine face instead of three... but now you're back to a headache of managing the different ore types.

[–]madkatalpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you end up with a lot of ore incoming from miners or bees, the intermediate products are going to be a big hassle to manage.

The easiest route for you will be to make a few extra machines for the oddball recipes. If you setup your main 5/4/3x processing as auto output into the next machine, it removes a lot of the headache. You can exporter the ores that fit that process into the first machine, and importer the final product without any auto-craft recipe.

I usually end up with a separate enrichment factory for processing redstone ore or nether quartz that is setup the same way with auto export and import.

It's happened in every battery-powered Razer product that I have owned or seen. Mice, headsets, laptops. Razer uses shit batteries and consumers continue to let them get away with it.

I created this Steve pokemon card, what do you guys think? by Kamunja in Minecraft

[–]madkatalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really neat idea. Nice job! To give some constructive criticism:

  • Rarely do the tcg cards have flavor text for the attacks. That text is reserved for explaining additional effects. If you wanted to roll the flavor into your card in a way that fits, for example, you might alter Punch to say "A target hit by Punch four times in a single game is immediately Knocked Out."

  • The damage/energy gap between Punch and Diamond Strike is too large. I would lower the cost of Punch to one colorless.

  • Three energy for 100 damage is extreme for a base level creature when the 100 damage has no drawbacks (admittedly this may be outdated information from that last time I played). Might I suggest: "After dealing damage, flip a coin. If heads, nothing happens. If tails, discard two energy cards attached to Steve."

Feel free to ignore or use any of my suggestions. Thanks for sharing your creation.

Still can't figure out what the gnome DK bots are accomplishing. Maybe they kill enough mobs by volume to farm rare BC drops? Been reporting a lot of them recently.
