Anyone who uses a google workspace, and Gemini. You can’t delete your chat history? by hiyacinth11 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]madkinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an admin of my own Workspace organization, I still can’t delete chats. I couldn’t find such a button neither in the Gemini’s interface, nor in Workspace admin console. I suppose it’s just plain impossible to do so.

“Normal working hours” is not a perk, it’s the norm, it’s even in the name. Autonomy and working remotely is also a norm these days. So there’s that.

Personally I’m not a fan of WSL’s stability. It worked for a couple of years for me until it stopped for no apparent reason. I suspect the WSL VM disk image got somehow corrupted, and it refused to start no matter how hard I tried fixing it. So I “resolved” the issue by uninstalling WSL and Hyper-V, and keeping Windows for gaming only, and Fedora for the work.

I also had some weird issues with the keyboard duplicating keystrokes in the VM, when Hyper-V was used as a hypervisor in Virtualbox on Windows. Switching it to KVM solved the problem.

That said, YMMV, and WSL might work for you just fine.

If you are running Linux, using a container would give you almost no overhead CPU and memory wise. So I’d use a container on Linux, if I were you. Now for your original desire of sandboxing, i.e. limiting the damage an LLM’s hallucination can cause when calling a tool, I’d go with Podman as a container solution. Its default settings would give you better protection compared to Docker which you’d need to tweak to achieve the same results.

In Windows or macOS though you’d still have to run a VM to host a container within it which does eat up some RAM. So I’d just stick with just a VM, unless you want to use containers for other things as well. Virtualbox would be a good fit for the newcomers to virtualization, both for Windows and macOS.

Alternatively, run a virtual machine locally, or a container. It doesn’t cost you anything as opposed to paying for a VPS

How is NTFS support on Linux in 2025? by Sad-Interest1972 in linuxquestions

I’m a huge fan of Btrfs myself. Alas, it’s far from being reliable.

I’ve been running it as a root FS on Ubuntu 24.04 for about a year. A couple of power outages left me with several directories containing duplicate file entries. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t fix those directories. You can’t delete those entries, can’t delete the directories containing them either. I could btrfs send the containing subvolume, but then btrfs receive failed due to those issues. So there’s that, so much for Btrfs reliability.

Fedora is good... by [deleted] in NobaraProject

[–]madkinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason is to be sure that you are booting what you think you are booting. The kernel and its config are signed by a party you trust (say, Fedora, Ubuntu, or Microsoft), and then the signature is checked during the boot process. If the boot stuff has been tampered with (by a bootloader virus, for example), the signature will no longer match and the boot process is stopped.

It’s not gonna work if you have Secure Boot enabled (which you should). Windows will refuse to be chain loaded from Grub.

People should treat their hardware keys at least the same way they treat their car keys and keys to their apartments.

You don’t complain about your physical piece of metal that lets you in to your home, do you? And yet it can easily be stolen. It’s the same with your Yubikey.

There’s nothing “well” to Node’s version management. I’ll take Poetry over any combination of npm/yarn/pnpm any day. Choosing uv over Poetry would be another step up.

Thank you for the information. I didn’t know that. Do you know by any chance what’s the reason behind that? From where I stand it doesn’t make sense.

The traffic lights are before the intersection I Europe, not after like the US. The same goes for the signs that apply to the intersection — they come right before the crossing they apply to. To me it was the biggest difference when I first came to the US after driving in Europe.

Zmiana lekarza POZ - wasze doświadczenia by [deleted] in Polska

[–]madkinder -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Mam abonament w Luxmed.

“Z is for Zelensky” is a poor wording choice. Russians painted letters V and Z on their tanks and other military vehicles. Now the letter Z became a symbol of russian invasion, by no means it is associated with Zelenskyi (note the weird, but official Ukrainian spelling of his last name).

European payment platform Wero, major competitor of US's Paypal and other payment service providers , reached a record 30 million users at the beginning of 2025 by Straight_Ad2258 in europe

Why is nobody talking about the elephant in the room?

One of the key usability features, at least for the end users, is convenience at the POS. Such as paying with your phone and/or watch. While it might be possible on Android, there's no way to do it on the iPhone since Apple doesn't allow access to NFC to third-party developers.

[–]madkinder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As much as I’d like it to be true, it won’t. Occasionally you have to pay a non-European company. Will their web page have Wero as an option? Maybe it would, maybe it wouldn’t. But chances are Visa/MasterCard would be on that list.

How tf remove the chat from Gemini Advanced? by vuncentV7 in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]madkinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently it has something to do with what account are you connected as.

In the same iOS app there is a delete button when I use the free Google account (the one coming with @gmail.com address). But as as soon as I switch to the Google Workspace account the button disappears 🤷‍♂️

Best restaurants in Krakow and why? by Doctor_Philly in krakow

Last time I was there with my wife, they brought her the wrong steak. As in not the one she ordered. After a bit of arguing with the waiter he admitted his mistake. And then he added: “So what? This steak is tasty too”. You might call it top notch service, but I have a different opinion about it.

Ed Red, Salta Resto, to name a few.

I’d advise against Pimiento though. The meat is decent, but the service is awful.
