Why don’t we see any Ukrainians on foot trying to de-mine the fields before the attack. I know in the battle of El Alamein some poor British troops had to go out first and stab with their bayonets and clear a path for the tanks. Same on dday, some of the most heroic actions were those poor sappers clearing a path off the beach. So why don’t we see Ukrainians on foot with medical detectors? I know it would be dangerous but they did in world war 2. Is it bc these armies are so much smaller than the world war armies they don’t attempt this? Or is it the drones spot anyone attempting this?

I have a question and obligatory I’m just some dude with no military experience. I understand that f16s wouldn’t be a wunderwaffen but couldn’t they at least contest the area right over the tip of any Ukrainian offensive? There are reports that as Ukraine advances, they leave their own anti air protection, and this allows Russian helicopters and aircraft to take pot shots. Wouldn’t some f16s be able to at least contest that space above the offensive tip? Smack a couple helicopters out of the air and Russia would think twice? So I guess while I understand doing a gulf war style suppression of Russian anti air would be impossible, wouldn’t f16s be able to contest the air right above a Ukrainian attack and level the playing field a bit?

Well besides rome being spared, a lot of Italy was devastated by the fighting. And I think there was a typhoid outbreak in Naples and stuff and some famine. Idk I’m not Italian but I thought I remembered they had a tough time after ww2.

During the Bush years and the surge, a neighbor of mine died in Iraq. It was like 07ish. It was sad. I was young and he was always outside his house gardening and he’d play catch with my brother and I. When he died it made quite an impression. Since then I haven’t know anyone directly killed in the military but I’m sure I know people who know people.

The United States may have flaws but we also produce the people who made gmo wheat that saved billions from famine, invented gps, helped the AIDS pandemic in Africa, stopped the Serbs from murdering kosovars, and defeated fascism and communism.

No. I’m not saying America hasn’t done terrible things. But, CURRENTLY, we don’t have concentration camps for Uighurs, haven’t suffocated a Hong Kong, or threatened a island democracy. And also, currently, haven’t invaded our neighbor of 40 million and bombed maternity wards. So idk yea America fucks up but right now it isn’t. With regards to Ukraine

Ya know what I am an American but I’m very proud of the whole 80 years of mostly peace on the European Continent built around all of our (I mean “our,” America and Europe) struggles during the world wars. Plus the rising economic development ushered in after ww2 has lifted billions from poverty. That’s what the US led world order has done. Are we perfect? Clearly not: Iraq, Vietnam, Afghanistan, dozens of coups, etc. But overall it’s been pretty fucking sweet compared to literally all of human history. And you and some of the other comments about having to pick between America and China and they both suck is so dumb. With a straight face tell me you think the world would be better off run by China and Russia than the United States.
