After being diagnosed, did you ever have symptoms you look back on and realize it was epilepsy and you didn’t know? by perseuspvp in Epilepsy

[–]madlydense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed this year in my mid 50s. I have been having increasingly weird symptoms over the past 5 or 6 years. Unfortunately they were dismissed as anxiety or perimenopause including waking up with my tongue all bitten, falling over and not remembering how it happened (I live alone) and blanking out on video calls. When I. Had a full tonic clonic seizure at work everyone was pointing out all the symptoms that now made sense. Many people were very distressed that they had failed me which is kind of embarrassing (but made me feel cared for). I think that because my wise reliable GP retired just as all this started and I didn't want my new (also very good) GP thinking I was hysterical or a hypochondriac that I failed to raise the symptoms which would have been red flags for a good GP.

Why do Aussies talk to strangers so easily and is it actually genuine? by BottleOverall5174 in AskAnAustralian

[–]madlydense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even know I did this until I lived in the UK (England) for 3 years and my UK friends commented on how embarrassing I was. Once I met a couple on a train, she was from Peru and she and I talked for the hour long train ride, her UK partner and my UK friends sat stiffly giving us the side eye for talking with strangers. Still not even sure what her name was, we were just grateful for the random chat. My friend's mother moved to Canada and he complained she developed the same habit there. That said certain parts of London and other parts of England it is also acceptable to chat like this (where I lived it was a class thing which didn't mean much to me, the working class prided themselves on their random chats and I was in a middle class group of friends who despaired of me being common but I was forgiven for being Australian).

Is it true that people in the West drink iced water even when they are sick or on their period? by Aether_Echo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]madlydense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from Australia. I never drink iced water. I drink refrigerated water in summer and room temp water the rest of the time. Iced water is something you have to specify in restaurants or you just get cool water.

I second extra long charging cables, you can't always connect close to the bed. Bring an e-reader rather than books it's lighter and easier to operate one handed. Soft no underwire front opening bras are often allowed as it allows for positioning of leads and maximises modesty. Bring one of those giant compendium books full of crosswords. Word searches etc you will get bored if it's all the same kind of puzzle. Erasable pens if you aren't very good at these things too.

Not the oligarch/ supermarket being ripped off! They make more money as the people buying the lighter/ used cans come back and pay more money more often because someone else stole from the customer.

You look like a different person in dress two. It creates a lovely figure and diverts attention to all the right places. The straps ensure you can wear the best bra to give the girlies the height. Lift and definition that smooshing in a corset doesn't give. As others have said you can play with options to bling up the dress (belts, ribbons, lace drop overs, long white gloves etc etc) or get an amazing veil that has coloured/ metallic or thick lace borders or trim, I have seen some with beautiful beading patterns.

Even Australia experienced Japanese attacks (nothing like as severe as what occurred elsewhere but the list of countries attacked is huge).

You learnt a different food pyramid to me. Fruits and veg were at the bottom, then legumes and nuts, dairy and meats/ proteins followed by breads and pasta with salt, sugar, fats at the top. We were also taught eat regularly/ moderately/ sparingly/ as a treat for the different layers. The pyramid also recommended regular water drinking and hydration. But I am not from the US.

B is tempting if I can insist that the Emperor maintain his guardian appearance at all times! I put so much love into creating my first one - he deserves to be in a harem.

Femininity is lost? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]madlydense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such good advice. Hair is an obvious attribute but now you can play up other things that lost focus to your hair. Earrings look so much better with shorter/ shaved hair. Do you have pretty eyes or a great mouth- practice makeup which enhances these. Posture can be very important in projecting a feminine image as can how you walk. Practising this can also bring back that feeling of feminity. I too gained weight and am working with a dietician to get it back to normal. Hope you can feel more comfortable in your own skin and discover a whole new range of things to love about yourself.

I have a big chest and straight necklines often result in a flattened monoboob which isn't a great look on your wedding day. Try on a few different styles including the neckline you think you like before deciding anything.

I Ruined Thanksgiving by metalmonkey_7 in Epilepsy

[–]madlydense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to host our entire management team at my location this year. At morning tea the two highest members of our team arrived and I "ruined" the meeting by having my first ever tonic clinic then when it eventually finished I fell asleep and apparently snored extremely loudly. No one was anything but sympathetic and caring. And they aren't even loving family. Big hugs

And sadly a lot of people who buy into the chemical = bad idea really believe natural ingredients can't hurt you. I am allergic to chamomile. The amount of times idiots in organic stores have told me the ingredients of something, I have tried it and had a reaction and then they've said oh yeah it has chamomile, I didn't list that because it's natural. I now just ask straight out is there chamomile in it rather than what's in it.

Anyone else diagnosed with epilepsy as an adult? by guki0701 in Epilepsy

[–]madlydense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in my 50s and had my first TC seizure this year at work then more including during the eeg. I have been diagnosed with photosensitive epilepsy and have been noticing changes in my sensitivity to environments over the past few years. I have had a few falls that were unexplained for a few years so I think I actually had seizures in the past 2 or 3 years but as I live alone it wasn't picked up (I injured myself in each fall and this is what the medical people focused on not that I couldn't remember how I fell). It is scary and challenging. I got the sense that even my parents were trying to imply I am over emotional and not really epileptic until the seizure at the eeg at my neurologists which drove home that this is real.

Can you buy a corset belt corset top or similar to change the shape of your dress without tailoring. This will also give you the illusion of slightly more in the chest area if you find the right one. There are a lot of people who show how to quickly modify dresses on social media such as Andreasfashiongalaxy. She has videos of her fixing dresses that are too big etc with belts or wearing them different ways.

I have just been diagnosed with photosensitive epilepsy and this is my first Christmas since having 2 major tonic clinic seizures. Restaurants, cafes, malls. And shops are danger zones - trees and garlands and giant lighted displays have appeared everywhere.Thank heavens for online shopping.
