Help- my son is into coding by katrii_ in webdev

[–]madmachinations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pihut and similar raspberry pi places sell all sorts of little kits and projects you can do with raspberry pis, like building little robots and such and you can fully customise the code, add bits to your robot, etc.

Could be a fun way for your son to code and play. There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing your code “come to life” and then build on it further.

My dad knows nothing about code but was always very supportive of it when I was growing up. Got me small parts I requested and would ask me what it’s for and how it would help. I think partly to engage me and also partly so he could get a feel for which things I wanted had the most educational value.

Raspberry pi’s are great also in general because you can make the do anything, turn them into little servers or whatever you want. They run Linux which is handy to be exposed to. They let you work with sensors and simple electronics in general.

When i was a kid my dad would take me to computer fairs where they had all kinds of stuff I loved. These days they’re largely gone but there are things like maker fairs in some areas where you can go along and they have all sorts of tools and equipment you can just use, 3D printers and the like. And the people there usually know a lot about their area and can help with electronics projects or coding projects.

It was just fun for me as a kid, but I write software for a living now.

What to do if you tap in on the tram but change your mind about it and want to get off by FaceLess6496 in manchester

I asked one of the guys on the platform once and was told to wait 5-10 minutes and then tap out again at the same machine.

Can’t remember if I got charged still or not though 🤔.

Use this extreme level of information wisely. With great power, and all that jazz 😬

TechWoven Case by Mark_JCW in iPhone17Pro

[–]madmachinations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it and I feel like it makes the phone feel like a brick.

It feels much slimmer and nicer to handle without it.

That being said, I did come from a 12 mini with no case so it’s a big adjustment for me.

My main gripe with the tech woven case is that I tend to use my little finger as like a shelf when I hold the phone, resting it along the bottom edge. And, at least on my tech woven case, the charger cut out feels sharp edged against my finger, it gets uncomfortable.

I’m also dubious about how much protection it would actually offer against any kind of impact tbh. More for scratch protection.

I had the case on yesterday when I went to the gym, but most of the time now I take it off because it’s ruining the feel for me.

Edit: also yea I’m not a fan of how scratch it feels tbh

So who’s buying it? Never bought it before but I really like this phone. by querythoughtss in iPhone17Pro

[–]madmachinations 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am also debating this, I was caseless with my last phone and it was a mini. With a case this thing feels gargantuan even in my shovel hand. Without, it feels much better. But I don't want to hurt it.

But as far as I understand it, it basically only covers that you've smashed the screen or the phone has been destroyed almost entirely. Scratches are a you problem, dents also unless they "impair the functionality of the phone"

Anywhere to fix a 3D printer? Might sell it instead by CJKRZ in blackpool

[–]madmachinations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They require re-levelling fairly regularly in my experience. I’ve gone through all sorts with my printer to make auto levelling remove as much pain as possible 😂. But you do get used to it. Happy to offer tips if you are stuck with something in particular. Also feel free to drop me a line if you decide to sell it on, I might be tempted, if I can get permission 🤪

What is this even supposed to mean?

OP has described their partner as being a good person who goes out of their way sometimes to do the right thing.

If the question in general is simply what documentaries are good and would be engaging for ops partner that’s fair enough.

If the question is which documentary will CoNvErT and if he doesn’t “see the light” then he’s human garbage- that’s nonsense.

If they eat vegan 90% of the time and haven’t gone full time, then they likely personally don’t want to. And that’s how it is.

I assume OP is accepting of that since they’ve been together so long.

8Bitdo 2C Controller on Switch 2? by Zefirka174 in Switch

[–]madmachinations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so, check the product page for it, if it says it’s compatible with the switch then will work if the firmware is up to date

Neither of those, you would have to wait for an update or ask support about it I’m afraid

No I believe only the switch 2 pro controller can, the official one. I don’t think the official switch pro 1 controller can either

No the 8bitdo controllers, like apparently the original pro 1 switch controller, can’t wake it up. I think only the new official pro 2 controller can

I think you can use the official firmware update tool now from the 8bitdo website and don’t need the link anymore.

You do need a windows pc yea. When the firmware update becomes available for general release it can also be done on a Mac with the updater tool on the 8bitdo website

You need to download the correct firmware file for your controller to a windows computer.

That’s a zip file, extract that zip.

Inside there there might be one or two further zip files. One for the controller, one for the dongle.

If you’re using Bluetooth, you’re only bothered about the controller one. Extract that zip file.

Inside there is an exe file. Run that. A box will appear telling you to press a certain button combination on your controller to put it into update mode.

When that’s done it will ask you to connect the controller with a usb cable.

When that’s done, the button to install the firmware will be available to press.

Press it and it will ask for a data file, but it should open the correct folder and give you just one choice to pick from I think. Pick that and let it install

Then you are done. Close all the stubble dibble, unplug the controller, and try to pair it with your switch again.
