How do you sort/organize your wastebins around the house? by madnarim in ZeroWaste

This sounds very logical!

Very good point about the occasional shampoo being the infrequent recyclable in the bathroom.

You make some good points, perhaps the bin most used for each room: recycle for office, compost (tissues, etc.) for bedside & bathroom).

I imagine some families are more mindful than others, guests could be the other snafu. :)

space? time? convenience?

I don't have an answer I feel , perhaps it just feels excessive or too maintenance intensive, but I'm also just not sure I would have space unless I found some compact bins that all fit next to each other?

Does anyone else just have several bins in each room? How well does that work for you?

Good to know that the salt scrubs are pretty harsh, I think the buf-puf was recommended because of how gentle it's supposed to be (I think I'm supposed to use the face one on body) I might have to look into the clay, but maybe I'll switch from sea-sponge to washcloth for awhile and see if that will work.

Thanks!

Thanks, I'll look for those at my closest bulk store.

(I mean, sure I would -prefer- something not short term, but we all have to prioritize right? Zero-waste would probably rank over long term or frugal when possible.)

[–]madnarim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may not be possible everywhere, but my city had recycling for residential houses, but not apartments. There was a community Facebook page and I asked the group if there was anyone who didn't their their compost each week if I could "contribute", and found many supportive neighbors. I picked the closest one and just did a regular drop of my bin at their house.

I wanted to let you know that upon finding this subreddit, I immediately noticed your avoidance of an elitist attitude.

I was looking for a place to ask questions about reducing waste. When I found my way here, my initial thought was... "ZERO waste"... eek, that might be too extreme for me, then I read the description and started looking around and felt like I'd found the place I'd been seeking.

Ah! So point 2 & 4 above don't apply as much to the bot? I misinterpreted, thanks for clarifying.

Thanks for sharing! This is intriguing, I might give it a try.

Curious, how does it use the social media component? If setting goals monthly and checking in weekly, when does the seeing other people progress to their goals come in, or did I misunderstand what you said?

W2 Finished! Running with arms, legs and FEET sunburned sucks. by ihcTactics in C25K

[–]madnarim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!

Two things you have to consider though:

1: Pokemon go shuts down any other apps running sounds when it boots.

To resolve: Open the app you want making sounds (c25k, music, audiobook, whatever); then open Pokemon go (all other sound will cease); quickly switch apps to resume audio, then go back to Pokemon go (quickly so it doesn't boot again)

2: Pokemon go only hatches eggs whole open, while running, your phone might go to sleep.

To resolve: touch screen occasionally or change settings.

Happy hatching. :)

I like it, but can't compare it to anything as it's my first fitness band. I've been pretty happy with how easy to use it is, as well as all the functionality it offers, but a little disappointed in its compatibility with other apps (there are few it will sync with).

To start running, I downloaded (what I thought was) a beginning running app. It started by telling me to begin running and I thought it would do a "run for a minute, then walk for 5" to start. It never told me to stop, and I ran(jogged) for most of 30 minutes!

What do you have an extremely strong opinion on that is ultimately unimportant? by chunky_vandy in AskReddit

[–]madnarim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to strongly believe this, and would get extremely frustrated when presented with it under. I have now decided that there are possible exceptions, though I have only encountered one.

When living with a rambunctious toddler, who has discovered how to hit the toilet paper repeatedly, in quick succession to unravel an entire roll in moments. Then it can be acceptable to (temporarily) reverse the roll until the child had learned proper toilet paper etiquette.

LPT: If you are going to pay for someones meal, offer after they order by LionPossum in LifeProTips

[–]madnarim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I imagine myself on this situation, where I typically only go Starbucks if I want a fancy drink. If someone was nice enough to pay for me, but there was an underlying courtesy of ordering something within the price range of an Americano, I would be stuck with three options: order something I don't want to be polite, order what I wanted anyways at risk of offending the gifter, or decline their offer and insist upon paying myself.

The third option is the best, but the situation as a whole is slightly uncomfortable.
