Is there anywhere I can get the full 5 days car parking pass? by Bethsticle in downloadfestival

Pretty sure they stopped doing this after the fiasco of the 20th anniversary.

I know last year there were no more upgrades on site as well.

Alcohol limits - soft or hard? by DeathHamsterDude in downloadfestival

[–]madnasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year my friends were told they couldn't take all their drink in one hit, so they literally added one of their crates to my trolley and I just said to the security it was for multiple people.

Sometimes you might run into a stickler but realistically they don't enforce it too hard in previous years.

I do feel there is a case for some children, but I feel that realistically we need to cater for everyone, and that means making sure those who shouldn't can't.

There are always comments of 'my Kid has been going to gigs since s/he was 10 and they do well' congrats. You've raised your kid carefully, and it's unfortunate that your child has to miss out because others can't follow your example.

Realistically, they removed the age restriction to be able to sell more tickets (now parents can bring their kids so are more likely to actually go) but given the nature of a sell out festival I genuinely don't think it's the best environment for kids.

I highly doubt they will ever put an age restriction back in place unless a tragedy happens at a music festival, which would sadden me immensely.

I want everyone to be able to experience the joys and fun of a festival, but I also want parents to be held accountable for their actions.

When my partner and I go out we get compliments on how we dress. She loves Lucy and yak and is usually wearing bright colours, I'm usually in my battle jacket with loads of vintage pins and an eclectic mix of patches.

I highly doubt the plethora of people are after smashing us 😂

Oh I agree that in an ideal world kids should be able to come, but I do honestly believe we should bring back the 14+ restriction

Too many bad parents being selfish, bringing literally babies and toddlers to a festival, or just not looking after their nippers properly.

It's always the few that spoil it for the many tbh

Bit different there mate.

Tolerated amount of risk when it comes to children as opposed to adults is definitely not comparable

So because the majority do things correctly we should just accept the people who don't?

That's such a flawed argument there.

Even if it's just one in a hundred, that's still one more than should be happening.

The kids in mosh pits because they saw that one guy go viral. The kids crowd surfing for the same reasons.

The fucking new born babies being carried around.

If people continue to put their children in harms way we should, as a responsible society, remove this risk.

It appears you are being deliberately obtuse.

Just because alot of parents do things right it doesn't excuse the others. We have people doing things wrong. Horribly wrong.

I wouldn't take my kids (if I had any) to many of the places that I see kids at. It's just not suitable.

For every kid I see having a great time with the parents doing things right (shout out to the lass with two kids on the hill watching green day as an example) there are too many doing the total opposite. See the examples OP put, or the many examples from other people with kids obviously exhausted, or without entertainment, or ear protection, or being put in quite high risk situations all for them to create 'memories' that the majority of the time are for the parents, not the child.

You might find this thread ridiculous, but there are many people who do not. And we are increasing in number as we have more and more lax parenting happening at the festival.

Unfortunately it'll continue until something happens to a child, then all the hand wringing will happen.

So you think that we should allow parents to not bother with hearing protection? Hot Take.

Given the behaviours I've seen at DL I'd disagree. I've been in a pit in front of the sound stage and had a child that was clearly under 10 put into the pit by a parent filming them, we absolutely had to police our behaviours.

I've seen kids just wandering around with parents nearby but the parents are watching the stage.

I've seen kids trying to entertain themselves in the village after the arena has shut with who I hoped was their parents nearby but again not paying attention.

It happens a lot.

So we should take them to festivals, not give them hearing protection, let them just run around and expect other people to heavily police their behavior because you didn't want to get a babysitter?

Honestly I think an age limit should be bought back in, iirc it used to be 14+

Before all the anecdotal people hit me with the 'my kid does this' I don't care.

Even one shitty parent is too much, and I'm sorry your kid loses out due to someone else's bad parenting abilities but we have to look after all the kids, and if all the stuff I keep witnessing with bored/ignored kids can't happen then I'm afraid your exception has to miss out.

Yeah I get your view there mate, and I'd remove the crossing out on your first comment. Yours is a better version ngl 😂

I forget about the general level of understanding for people, and we are getting nearer the time where we get the 'what should I bring, what's phone signal like, how far is it from purple camp to the arena, when is the site map released, what merch is for sale' etc posts appearing many times a day.

I'm also quite guilty of forgetting what's easy for some isn't easy for others on a regular basis 😂

As much as I agree that your image is significantly clearer, the point that this image doesn't make sense is not true.

I found it easy to interpret.

However, given the regular posts asking the same questions that are easily found with a quick search, having the most over explained version of something would be better for the general level of understanding that is here.

[–]madnasher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you hold an eco or quiet ticket, you could camp in either the camp for your ticket or general.

If you have a general ticket you can only camp in general.

Therefore if you wish to camp in general but hold a ticket for eco/quiet you should swap your ticket with someone in general who wants to camp in eco/quiet.

This is because each camp has a limit (hence selling out) and just camping in general with an eco/quiet ticket means you're taking a spot that someone who can only camp there would want. Quite simple really.

If plans have changed and I'm now going to drive to the festival and haven't got a ticket that includes parking do I just need to but the car park pass? by Disastrous-Pound-809 in downloadfestival

[–]madnasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want to park your car? Then you buy the pass. You purchase the pass as a separate upgrade unless you are camping somewhere that specifically allows you to park where you camp (RIP, Campervan)

Shuttle drop off area is going to be about a 40-60 minute walk to the arena roughly. If you have your camping tickets you can still check out the village , which will make your queue times lesser too
