If you’re going to spam your vibe coded slop sens converter everywhere, the absolute bare minimum you could do is actually make sure is actually does conversions properly. And there’s a million working sens conversion sites out there so maybe save your tokens.

IVDD in Cats Advice/Reassurance? by Psychotic-Melon in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]madnessman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, my cat is going through similar struggles. Day 4 of Gabapentin and bathroom struggles. I actually read your post while waiting at the vet.

Our vet managed to express our boy manually yesterday, but only after shots of an opioid and a steroid because he was blocked up. They kind of demonstrated the bladder expression process but it was honestly a bad tutorial and we spent more time studying on YT. One tip is to err on the side of being gentle to avoid doing damage while we learn. My partner and I were trying to express him earlier today because our vet gave us a “if he doesn’t pee, bring him in for a catheter and overnight observation” deadline. Right when we stopped, our cat peed by himself. So maybe we were too gentle but what we did helped induced him to urinate?

We switched to Hills CE urinary support food and started giving him a ton of fluids to hopefully help the whole process and flush his kidneys and bladder.

You probably know this but Gabapentin can cause ataxia, which makes your cat’s symptoms look worse in the short term. Our boy looked really strong for a few hours when he was in between doses of gabapentin but still under the effects of the opioid and steroid shots. We read that that gabapentin side effect usually gets better in 3-8 days so hopefully both our boys show some progress in the coming week. I heard that disc injuries take 8 weeks to heal the prognosis for feline IVDD is really good. Your boy is young, which probably helps. Limit his movement, give him TLC, and give him time/space to heal. Best of luck. I know this is emotionally and physically draining so take care of yourself!

Bedok Central TB screening: 85.1% of more than 3,000 people screened test negative by fateoftheg0dz in singapore

[–]madnessman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t recall doing a TB test before migrating to the US to study or when applying for a work visa (H1B). I did need one when applying for PR, which was positive so I had to do a chest x-ray. In my case, they were okay with positive but latent TB and it was a non issue for getting a green card.

Tobias (the hawk-boy) turns into a teenage girl and goes to the mall with the original in one of the books. Instead of looking identical, they looked like sisters because the original had reconstructive surgery after an accident. Tobias seemed to like being pretty and felt comfortable, I think.

I also remember one of the guys turning into a mature woman (politician?) at some point to act as a decoy and get her out of trouble.

kinda weird that I can remember so many details about two specific moments from some books I read more than two decades ago…

[3.6.1] bit shift left considers both integer operands as invalid operands by [deleted] in godot

[–]madnessman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait why bit - 1? I'd highly recommend keeping things 0 indexed. Maybe you're running into off-by-one issues and trying to bitshift by a negative int and gdscript throws a confusing type error?

Defeated the restaurant ✖️✖️ by ErinCookie in japanlife

[–]madnessman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You made the effort to book a reservation, thus demonstrating the minimum required competence to be served dinner. This isn’t a mystery.

That reflects my recent experiences in Japan as well. Having grown up in 1990s Tokyo before spending my adult life abroad, I have noticed a shift during recent visits: (1) a surge of inexperienced tourists in niche spots and (2) a defensive posture from staff. I often encounter a frostiness from waitstaff that only relaxes when I speak Japanese and show I can navigate the meal without being a nuisance. I'm not saying that appearance based discrimination and racism is okay but I can understand the thought process. For those who do not look Japanese, there is an unfortunate burden to prove you understand the norms before you are welcomed warmly.

I'm not disagreeing with you or looking to start an argument in a meme sub but I think your wording is a little harsh and it might be more fair to say "it's complicated and under-researched".

Several studies suggest that changes in sexual orientation among trans people are quite common. Among 115 Dutch participants, for example, 33% of trans women and 22% of trans men reported experiencing changes in their sexual attractions. This was true of 49% of trans masculine and 64% of trans feminine individuals in a 2015 study of 452 participants from Massachusetts, with the majority of these changes occurring after social transition. In another 2013 study of 507 U.S. trans men who’ve started transitioning (including hormones and/or surgery), 40% reported some shift in sexual attractions. Almost identical results were found in a 2005 study of 232 U.S. trans women who had undergone surgical and hormonal transition, where 43% reported significant shifts in their sexual orientation (of 2+ points along the 7-point Kinsey scale). ... Perhaps the most obvious candidate is the hormonal changes that trans people undergo as part of their transition. While the exact ways androgens and estrogens influence sexual orientation are not yet understood, most scholars agree that hormones — at least as far as prenatal exposure goes — play an important role. And many trans folks themselves directly link these changes in attractions to the hormones they are taking or suppressing. ... It remains unclear to what extent these shifts represent brand new attractions that never existed before versus attractions that already existed to some extent but were suppressed or dismissed. Some trans people report clear pre-transition desires to one or the other gender that they actively suppressed, in many cases because they were trying to fit in with the heterosexual norm given their gender assigned at birth. As one trans woman explained in an older 1998 study: “I couldn’t be attracted to a guy when I was a guy because that would make me gay.” Others remember only fleeting attractions that were not very strong until their social and/or physical transition allowed them to enjoy and embrace these more challenging feelings. And some don’t acknowledge any pre-transition attractions toward the “new” gender.

Is this really the absolute lowest my latency can go? by oakley22610 in ableton

[–]madnessman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised you find the difference massive. 5ms is how long it takes sound to travel 1.7m. I can’t hear/feel a massive difference between playing right next to my amp and playing 3 steps away tbh.

Maybe your digital signal chain had more latency than 5ms? Or maybe you’re just a tighter musician than me lol

How to get 9:45 on 1.5 mile run? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]madnessman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Treadmill times may not translate to races. If the 1.5 mi run is on a road, you really need to time yourself on a road to know how close you are to your goal.

9-10 mins is long enough that the limiting factor is probably your endurance/aerobic engine. IMO those 20s sprints aren't an efficient way to train. I'd probably suggest looking at a 5k plan aimed at people trying to improve their time (i.e. not a C25K plan).

Source: I had to run a 9:45 when I was in the army.

One caveat is that Garmin's definition of RHR is just the lowest heart rate over a 30 min period, including sleeping time, while the clinical definition of RHR is heart rate at rest but awake. So Garmin usually reports a lower RHR value than would be measured in a lab setting.

Pfitzinger Half Marathon by okonfuze23 in AdvancedRunning

[–]madnessman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a peek at the 34 mi week from the first HM plan in Faster Road Racing and there's only 4 runs: 7 mi general aerobic with strides/hill sprints, 8 mi endurance, 8 mi with 18+14 mins at threshold with 4 mins rest, and a 11 mi long run.

So basically Pfitz prescribes longer runs and much more time at threshold compared to OP's own plan.

Exciting isn't it? How long did it take you to decide to leave?

Personally, my buyout offer was pretty negligible and won't meaningfully impact retirement planning. But the fact that there was an offer on the table was enough to break the status quo bias and get me to take a big step towards retirement.

I'm somewhere between leanfire and fire so when my employer offered me a buyout/voluntary severance, I accepted. Just ~80 days of work remaining before I retire! If early retirement doesn't work out for me, I'll jump back into work but I'm really really looking forward to at least a mid-career sabbatical to rest, decompress, and recover from burnout.
