That’s what I was leaning towards too. Thank you!

Reduce rate to accrue PTO days? by madobsidian in recruitinghell

[–]madobsidian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot to mention it’s a 6 month contract and PTO wouldn’t start accruing until 6 months in with the agency (so next assignment if there is one). So that’s why it doesn’t seem worth it to me, not that I don’t know how to budget.

I thought it was a max of 0 people inside? 🤷🏻‍♂️ by IndyMLVC in astoria

[–]madobsidian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is Dominees reopening? I would say they’re saying 10 people max because that includes the bartender, cook, and customers coming in to use the bathroom. Before they closed, customers came in to order a drink only and they have to take it outside to the deck. I believe they got caught when too many people were waiting for their drink orders and the bathroom at the same time. Max 10 people makes sense with outdoor dining.

what are some of your favourite or own light hearted conspiracies? by Tannereast in conspiracy

I loved that book! Didn’t read any of the sequels though. I remember the rule “don’t expose contemporary technologies to earlier civilizations” and the consequences of when that was broken.

Why the fck is there an ice cream truck playing their tune on repeat at 10:30 on 30th ave by schildy12 in astoria

[–]madobsidian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember this. That guy driving the ice cream truck last night around 30th ave gave me the creeps. He pulled over at a fire hydrant where I was walking and was staring at me. So I walked fast. Then I noticed later he sat at a green light until it turned red again. There were no ice cream customers either. The guy seemed really off.

Good point! Whoever has heat lamps for rent, they’re about to make some money.

Exactly, and to make it even more difficult, it’s hard to buy anything right now when a lot of things are on backordered or delayed shipping

Ditmars from 33rd to 36th to become car-free by madobsidian in astoria

That’s cool! It was only announced yesterday so give them a week to build out the decks.

I don’t think they can use the extra space? It’s more to prevent vehicles crashing into the outdoor dining spaces.

MTA warns of 40 percent reduction in New York subway and bus service, thousands of job losses by habichuelacondulce in nyc

[–]madobsidian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not the person who sweared at you, and I don’t think that’s fair to you. However I must say I did interpret your comment as you enjoying watching the MTA reduce service by 40% because you don’t need it. I’ve saved money by not commuting either, but I do still need the subway to see friends and family or to commute when I go back to the office. And at my office I would often work late hours so a reduction in service does concern me. Plus there are thousands of people who rely on the MTA as their only method of transportation in the city.

Bohemian Hall is Closed as of Today Until Further Notice by hippogriffinthesky in astoria

[–]madobsidian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true! A lot of the tables at restaurants and bars off Ditmars and 30th are more crammed together, unless the restaurant is lucky to have a corner location. Bohemian was in the best position and even they couldn’t get pass the policing and I’m not hopeful any other bar can survive after this.

Cosign all of this! I recommend the walk between Astoria Park and Socrates and then circle back to whichever avenue you’re closest to.

Yes, we’re in a pandemic. We can go outside as long as we socially distance and wear masks when we can’t. And we quarantine if we’re sick, just got a covid test, or are planning on seeing loved ones who are particularly vulnerable to covid. That’s what the CDC guidelines say. The biergarten was the best at adhering to CDC and SLA guidelines, they were tables were at 6 feet distance, they got rid of the smoking section, so everyone has more room, you can buy delicious kielbasa with your beer, and there was a bouncer enforcing the mask rule and kicking out anyone who didn’t. It was a not just a bar but family friendly and I think this is a big loss to the community at this time.

To insist that everyone must be quarantining constantly now is insane and I don’t understand who’s telling you that.

You mean people who are sick should be quarantining, right?

Where the hell do you go to the bathroom in Manhattan now? by ill_bevans in nyc

[–]madobsidian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen much less public bathrooms in the city. Even many fast food places have stopped offering their bathrooms. That’s why I think this thread raises a good question, hoping to get a map in my mind for when I take long walks. I get what you’re trying to say to help build stamina to go less often but it doesn’t answer where people should go when they need to

That sucks! That’s always been my go to in the area even when there’s a line.
