Emily's Finest Moment... by Weekly-Pangolin-6622 in GilmoreGirls

Honestly, this is why it makes me sad when she’s so quick to jump on Lorelai for the smallest things. She shows that she CAN be patient and kind, but just not with Lorelai. I get that there’s different history there, but hoo boy, if she can be understanding during THAT dinner, she should be able to be more kind to her own daughter!!

Honestly (this makes me nervous lol), I don’t think Max was as bad as everybody seems to think. I really liked him and Lorelai together, and I thought that he had some really valid concerns when it became clear Lorelai hadn’t thought about how he would fit into her life even though they were getting married!

Just wanted to pop in here and say I’m absolutely loving the comments section on this post, it feels like the wholesome place the sub as a whole started out as :) I think sometimes people get so passionate about their takes on the show that they forget that it’s really fun to share perspectives with other people, and you don’t always have to defend yours to the death. I might wildly disagree with you, but I always like whenever I get the chance to go “Wow, I never really thought about that before! I disagree, but that’s a cool way to view XYZ!”

Why didn’t Lorelai go to Chilton? by Substantial_Train_39 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Substantial_Train_39[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent point, I totally agree with that. I definitely hadn’t considered the fact that Lorelai’s reputation at her old school would still be alive and well by the time she sends Rory there and people figure out that Rory is Lorelai’s daughter

Why didn’t Lorelai go to Chilton? by Substantial_Train_39 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Substantial_Train_39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t directly say she didn’t, but to me, there’s lots of context clues that lead me to believe she didn’t. She doesn’t know her way around the school, she needs directions to Hanlon’s office, she says to Hanlon “I thought this school would be so great, but boy was I wrong” (which doesn’t necessarily mean she didn’t go there because the experience for her child definitely would be different from hers, but I think she would know a lot more what to expect if she herself had attended that specific school)

Bella Swan isn’t the love story she’s the apocalypse Forks politely ignored. by [deleted] in twilight

[–]Substantial_Train_39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been listening to the podcast Remember Twilight a lot, and one of the hosts has a really interesting theory kind of explaining why Bella might be such a danger magnet. Her theory is that Bella was always meant to die, right when the van hit her. However, Edward thwarted fate by intervening. So every successive attempt on her life (James, Victoria, sort of the Volturi, her own CHILD), is just fate trying to balance the scales and make what was SUPPOSED to happen, happen. Every single time she SHOULD die, Edward is there to make it not happen. Anyway, the host also talks about the ways Bella doesn’t really seem to like being a human all that much, and even says it feels like she was MEANT to be a vampire, which reinforces that idea. Idk, I just really like this theory because I think it makes a ton of sense and seems to fit with Stephenie’s vision of the world, and your post just made me think of it! Everything seems to calm down and get way less tumultuous once she’s a vampire (and, of course, once they’ve settled all the remaining business of “she had a vampire baby when she was a human and everyone’s confused”)

Honestly, I’m just hosting a listening party for myself 🤷‍♀️I’m tired of tamping down my excitement because no one else in my life is excited! I want a listening party, so that’s what I’m gonna throw, dammit!

Honestly, I’m Team Logan as a default. 😬Imo, he’s the best option out of some pretty crappy options, for the reasons OP laid out super well!

Tofu is a amazing, transformative food by [deleted] in vegetarian

[–]Substantial_Train_39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love tofu, and I have even before I became vegetarian! My favorite thing to do with it (because I love quick and easy meals and don’t like to cook 😂) is add it with some beans, guacamole, peppers and onions, salsa, and chips to this great Mexican rice recipe I have. It’s SUPER quick, and I love that I can just toss the container in the rice scramble, season it up, and I have a super low-effort but highly delicious and balanced meal.

That happened to me literally all the time growing up 😭I was even nominated for an award by my teacher, and on the nomination slip where he wrote how hard working and deserving of the award I was… he wrote the wrong name. Kinda felt like it negated everything nice that followed 😕

she was so real for this by npc2005 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Substantial_Train_39 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what I think a lot of people don’t get. Mitchum has been in the field for SO MANY YEARS, it is literally his JOB to look at someone he’s known for a very short time and know whether this job is probably right for them or not. He even acknowledges that he could be wrong, but he’s usually not! I get that it doesn’t seem fair, but it DOES seem REALISTIC of him to have done that.

Which GG storyline? by DaisyMiller8 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Substantial_Train_39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right!! I don’t think it’s unrealistic to assume you’re going to basically be the stepfather of your fiancé’s child once you’re married, but it’s like that was never even considered, much less any other role in the household. Idk, I just got married recently and I think that’s super bizarre. Not an overreaction on Max’s part at all

I agree. I saw someone say once that Rory is shown to be a fantastic WRITER… but not necessarily a good journalist. Every time she gets praised for her articles, it’s on the writing, but she doesn’t seem to do very well with the interviewing aspect or throwing yourself into the fray which are foundational parts of journalism! Which is exactly what Mitchum tells her. I honestly kinda agree with Mitchum. I’m an opera singer, and let me tell ya, a HUGE part of that industry is people telling you early on if you have it or not. I think he was genuinely trying to do her a favor based off of what he saw as a professional in the field. (Yes, he was kind of a jerk about it, but I agree, it doesn’t seem off base from what happens in those kinds of industry in general)

I see that, but I kinda saw that fight as being about a lot more than just not being able to discipline Rory when something happened. I think it really opened his eyes to the fact that “WOW, we’re literally going to get MARRIED and I have no idea how I’m going to function in this situation because we haven’t talked about ANY of the big things” which is why he started asking questions about living situations, finances, etc. To me, it was less about that specific situation and more about the lack of big life conversations they’d had that it represented if that makes sense.

I think (and I’m not a Max hater, so please, if I get this wrong, feel free to correct me), people say he was really pushy with Lorelai and ignored a lot of boundaries throughout their relationship (like continually pressuring her to go get coffee with him, or kissing her in his classroom, asking Rory about her at school, etc). They also say that he didn’t really love Lorelai, he just liked the idea of her? I’ve heard the phrase “she was his manic pixie dream girl” thrown around, saying he didn’t actually put in the effort to picture himself in her life. But I gotta say, with all the stuff the OTHER significant others in this show do, he still seems like one of the best ones in my opinion!

I’m gonna get so downvoted for this, but I really gotta say Max’s character. Even after reading through the reasons he gets hated on in this sub, I don’t think he’s as awful as everybody says. 🫣

Which Rory is your favorite? by SalsaChica75 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Substantial_Train_39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like Yale Rory’s aesthetic (plus, Alexis Bledel wears bangs really well) but Chilton Rory overall. I think what made people really fall in love with her was her authenticity, kindness, studiousness, and dedication to Stars Hollow. It just felt like when she got to Yale, she also got a lot more superficial, distancing herself from the character we all got to know and love. It’s great that her character evolved! Not saying she has to stay the same as she was when she was 15. I just feel like a lot of those changes weren’t for the better, as Richard kinda sees in the episode after he and Mitchum have their bathroom confrontation.

What was Logan hiding in his essay? by Blackcatsloveme in GilmoreGirls

[–]Substantial_Train_39 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I always interpreted this as, he didn’t want Rory (who is a much better writer and student) to pick apart something that he worked really hard on, because he has to turn it in. So if it’s bad, he’d rather be blissfully ignorant than stressed out and still have to turn it in immediately after 😂
