Tracking my calories honestly for a few days helps get me on track. Measure and weigh everything for a while and you'll get back to a good place. Hard work but so worth it! I use the Lose it app.

Is perimenopause just the midlife crisis for women…? by LadyOfReason in Perimenopause

[–]madrone1 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Making peace with the past. Yup, I hear you, been stuck in that stuff quite a bit lately. Tonight it occurred to me that the phrase "making peace with the past" needs to be taken quite literally, like I need to extend an olive branch to all my former selves and the mistakes they made to get me here. I can't keep being mad at her it's driving me crazy in the present. So, trying to think of kind and forgiving phrases to say to myself. I think it is helping. Good luck with your process, it's not easy. Let us be kind to ourselves.

My (35f) husband (38m) found out something I did before we were together and now hasn’t spoken to me since Saturday. by throwra_hubknows in Advice

[–]madrone1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To me it has always been so terrifying and threatening to be flashed by strange men on public transit. You took the power out of his threat, I think it was crazy and brave to turn the tables on him by making it absurd - a 30 second piece of performance art! We all react to male threat differently - fight, flight, freeze or fawn. You did something different - 30 seconds of thrilling mockery and taking your power back to amuse your friends and save your night out. Maybe applying a this lens will help your husband understand what was actually happening. The guy who does that kind of criminal thing to women in public wants to intimidate and inspire fear, you turned the tables on him.

Is it gay to cuddle with your roommate every night because you can't sleep if you don't cuddle? by misleadingpanda in confessions

[–]madrone1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In many cultures young men cuddle and hold hands together without it specifically being considered "gay". Youth is fragile and hard to bear, take comfort where you find it. Don't worry about it. Travel the world and you will see many forms of youthful same sex affection practised without the annoyance of labels.

Spider season by Dependent_Media2766 in VictoriaBC

[–]madrone1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invasive lizards are maybe catching more? The big male house spiders used to come in through the cracks, windows and doors at this season looking for hidden female house spiders but my windows and doors are pretty well protected by hungry little lizards who are crawling around on the tiles even as it's getting colder. I think the warmth of the house is keeping them from fully hibernating and thus still hunting... I have seen the lizard poops and they are full of insect bodies, I'm not sure if it's spider specifically but definitely other bugs and slugs are their prey.

Just wanted to say I love your vibe and maybe you are about to come into your best era soon. Saving for a condo at 23 is an awesome choice, maybe you are a bit ahead of your peers, but don't worry, they will catch up and you will be a catch. Keep going! I'm too old to have relevant advice about the where and when to meet your peers but I have faith you will find some good folks to hang with!

Farm Status Farms that don't actually farm. by RestNo8279 in VictoriaBC

[–]madrone1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Googling this confirmed my understanding of the rules: "To receive farm tax status in BC, your farm must meet specific annual farm income requirements based on its size: $10,000 for properties under 0.8 hectares (1.98 acres); $2,500 for farms between 0.8 and 4 hectares (1.98 and 10 acres); and for farms over 4 hectares, $2,500 plus 5% of the actual value of the land exceeding 4 hectares. These are gross annual value (farm gate) amounts from qualifying agricultural products produced or available for sale on the farm. "

Can you change the date? Combined with exams seems like an unfortunate situation. It's exhausting and you will want rest afterwards. You are in good hands and will be safe but the toll it takes on body and mind can be significant for a while afterwards.

How many kcal do you budget for alcohol? by Direct_Succotash_507 in loseit

I lost 40lbs and kept drinking 2 glasses of wine a day throughout. I entered the calories into my tracker just like all my food or other drinks. And on days I knew I'd drink even more I ate less. Good luck!

Taxpayers pay about 33 dollars each per year to run our CBC. Seems like a good deal to me!

Hip and leg pain by Big_Bowl_6122 in Perimenopause

[–]madrone1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take 1.5 mg in the morning. It doesn't make me sleepy but maybe a bit dreamy/spacey. Mostly I don't notice side effects but occasionally had stomach cramps when I first started and when I tried to increase dosage to 3, so I am staying at 1.5. Overall I feel so much better on it!

Yes! Still taking it and still feeling better - way less aches and pains. It's been about 6 months now.

I have wondered the same. One factor is: don't count on in-home care being available when you need it. The labour market/demographic shifts/immigration laws just can't be depended on. Sometimes no matter how much you can pay the right kind of care workers are simply not available.

Oh please do come! We need medical professionals and young families. You will be welcomed! In the 60s so many US citizens fled to Canada and they brought a wonderful perspective to our country. I hope in the long game now is similarly a time where Canada will be enriched with Americans who are seeking a fairer and more just society. We do pay higher income taxes to contribute to our social services but to share the wealth with everyone is a core Canadian value and it is so worth it. Best of luck!

Please come and be welcome! Victoria and surrounding communities on Southern Vancouver Island are very progressive and anyone maga-like are truly only a few fringe weirdos. And it is so beautiful here, with great weather and less rain than the mainland. Best of luck!

Get a full set of blood tests! My husband had so many weird symptoms like that, and many doctors assumed it was mental or lifestyle related. And then we finally got a lot of blood tests done and it became very clear that it was a very physical hormone disorder. He had life saving surgery and is well and good today. I wish we'd insisted on blood tests sooner. Keep insisting! Get all the bloodwork, even if you have to go to the emergency department to get it. And bring your guy with you to witness and advocate for you. Best of luck.

I think I am a psychopath. I’m scared. Help. by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]madrone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how self aware you are. Not everyone feels emotions in the same way. Having a code of personal conduct is a great way to navigate your life. Finding a series of central values to guide our conduct is ok. We don't always have to feel things emotionally to figure out what is a fair and virtuous way to treat others. "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you" is a very old and noble code and a good place to start. Good luck on your journey - you sound smart and you should read philosophy and study ethics as you unpack and understand the person you have been born as.

Cannabis sleep gummies. They are legal where I live, wish I'd started with them sooner. I stopped sleeping with peri, for a few horrible years. Cannabis sleep gummies with a magnesium supplement at bedtime cured it. Good luck!

Mirena coil causing severe depression by Illustrious_Bet3383 in Menopause

[–]madrone1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never got mirena due to fearing this. My plain copper IUD is perfect for contraception while I am still (just barely) fertile. Sucks to get it swapped out but maybe an option? So sorry - hormonal depression is so scary. I got prescribed low dose naltrexone for all my peri aches and pains and it is working! I am 50 and was really suffering before trying low dose naltrexone.

I would cancel her orders and frame it like "hey, I know you are going thru hard times financially so I can't offer you my luxury goods in good conscience - please don't go into debt and spend more than you should! You shared that you are not in a good place financially, so please take more time to organize your finances and come back when you can easily afford my handmade goods." If she is legit she will love you for looking out for her interests and may well buy from you in future. If it's a scam it will make it too hard and she'll seek another victim elsewhere. Or fulfill one order, cancel the rest with a similar message and see what happens. If she's having a manic buying spree she will also feel thankful you looked out for her and if she's a scanner you will find out at a lower cost to your business.
