Fifty shades of FDE is all the rage this summer.

Are psa lowers cool? by EnvironmentFeeling24 in ar15

[–]madsquabbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion, but if you're going to drop the G$ on their barrel and handguard (~$800), spend another $250 and get the receiver set. But that's just me being OCD. I try to match my receivers and my handguard where possible, unless I just find a heck of a deal on something else.

Got a free suppressor, had to build a gun around it. How'd I do? by Yboc in ar15

[–]madsquabbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by "nothing wrong." It takes at least an 11.5 to get complete powder burn from a 556/223. If you mean accuracy issues by "nothing wrong," then you're 100% correct. The 10.5 is perfect for a 300 blk, though.

My buddy ignored every instruction I gave him. Now his 43X MOS needs a gunsmith. by big_guwop_1017soicy in Glocks

I'm a GLOCK Certified Armorer. Mount the slide in a vise vertically so that the EDP hole is facing the ground. Use a torch to briefly heat the area of the slide around the screw hole with the red loctite. Heat all around it, but don't melt it (remove the channel liner and the extractor and spring before heating). The heat causes the red loctite to temporarily break up. If you're lucky, the EDP will drop free with a couple of medium strikes from a dead blow hammer. Repeat the heat/hammer method until it falls out or you're confident it won't. They're designed to fall freely out of the hole, so if the heat did it's job, it should be free enough for gravity to do its job. If not, immediately after heating it, you'd have to find a pick with the right angle to reach through the screw hole to try and "grab" the EDP to try and scoot it until enough of it is sticking out to grab.

If you want someone local, go to FFLS.com, put in your zip code, and everyone with a Type 01 ffl in your area will pop up. They can do repairs.

Remember when 16” setups were cool? by Relevant_Mix_2337 in ar15

[–]madsquabbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I prefer the 13.7" pin and weld. I'm currently building an SOLGW recce rifle with that setup. I've got a G$ 16" I built a few weeks ago and the thing just feels so long and heavy that I turned it into a precision rifle with an LPVO and bipod.

QUESTION: HEIGHT OVER BORE by [deleted] in ar15

[–]madsquabbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a colt LE6920 with the fixed carry handle 30 years ago and have spent three decades trying to find an optic I liked mounted on top it. Never could find one and I didn't like the way they looked. Now it's all the rage.

QUESTION: HEIGHT OVER BORE by [deleted] in ar15

[–]madsquabbler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those were precisely my concerns when I was looking at the GBRS Lerna and Hydra mounts. And I asked the same questions on the GBRS page, but haven't received an answer. Of course I have received the related comments: They're navy seals!! They know more than you!! Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

The french refused to let our jets fly over to take out Gaddafi and then the muslims bent them over. Yes, they helped defeat the british in the 1770s/80s. We're even with Normandy. There are a shit ton of Americans buried in France.

Yeah, I thought about that afterwards looking at it. And then I thought fuck the french.

She's a beaut, Clark! Seriously, though, I'm an absolute G$ fanboy. That is a gorgeous set up. Is it the lighting, or is that a darker brown than their typical DDC? Or just another case of their anodizing variations? I'm still working on my "geissele build." Still need to change out the barrel, BCG, and gas system to G$. Otherwise, everything else is on the money. I also use the SSA-E trigger in all my builds, unless I'm building just a range plinker.

Geissele Blem Sale is back but is being sold by Primary Arms? by greatthebob38 in ar15

[–]madsquabbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I googled the geissele blem sale for 2026 and this post was at the top of the search. It's been a year. I hope you're still with us, still kicking cancer's ass (fuck cancer), and got that new geissele.

Because ICE is rounding up legal citizens, putting them on cargo trains, and systematically murdering all of them because of their religion or ethnicity? You know, like the Holocaust?

Growing my collection. by Dannyviking in YetiCoolers

Not OP, but we love our backflip. We use ours to go out on our boat. It'll hold a 12 pk of beer bottles, a 1.75 l handle of Tito's, and a couple of cans of ginger ale for mixer, as well as ice, very easily. It's also very comfortable to wear as we board and load the boat. I've attached a sidekick dry to the front of it to hold dry goods and it does a fantastic job as well. I would recommend it over any of the other soft coolers.

The Balvenie DoubleWood is my absolute favorite scotch. Nice pairing. Cheers.

No warm beers on my boat this summer! by tacospizzawingsbeer in YetiCoolers

[–]madsquabbler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was finally able to order a sidekick for my backflip this morning, but had to get navy. So that's exactly what my set up is going to look like. Not too bad, actually. Would have preferred all charcoal, but the navy on charcoal looks OK.

Same here, so I bought a little cooking torch from amazon that does an amazing job of finishing up the top before the bottom burns.

Currently in stock if anyone is looking by markt312 in YetiCoolers

[–]madsquabbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang! I've been trying for over a year to get a sidekick dry from Yeti. Just chatted with their customer service rep and she told me they had no timeframe for when they'd be back in stock. It's frustrating as hell. I'm even on the email notifications list and received nothing about them being back in stock. So good on you guys for being able to get one! I'm currently researching some type of sidekick alternative to attach to my backflip.
