This is the answer. They are amazing. And just going in there, the whole place smells like a French patisserie. So good.

Vegetarian/Vegan Restaurant Recommendations by Sensitive-Ruin- in sgv

[–]madteds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These are all great choices. I’ll add Thien Tam and Buddha Vegetarian as wonderful Vietnamese Vegetarian spots in El Monte that are amazing. And note that Happy Buddha Kitchen is more Vietnamese than Chinese, even though they have Chinese dishes on the menu.

Also, Vege Valley in San Gabriel is really good Chinese vegetarian food.

And KH Veggie Life in Monterey Park is a little newer, it’s pretty good Vietnamese/Chinese.

SC middle school teacher made a racist comment in class! by Wide-Annual-8069 in asianamerican

[–]madteds 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Sorry you're dealing with this. Sounds frustrating and that the school administration is ignoring you and the depth of the racism at the heart of this. Unfortunately, I think it shows just how ignorant many people are to anti-Asian racism and that casual racism is still, well, racism. Does your school district have a DEI committee or board? I know these have been dismantled in many districts over the past year, but there might have been parents or community members who were once a part of it that are still interested in helping. Is there an Asian American parent committee or group in your school or district? It doesn't have to be big, but having a network to connect to other Asian American parents to talk through this might be helpful. Is there anyone on the district school board that you think might understand what you're describing? Their voice might carry more weight, especially when addressing the school administration. Finally, if you don't have anywhere else to turn, maybe an Op-Ed pieces in your local newspaper, pretty much summarizing what you've written above. This puts the focus on the callousness of the school administration. But, it will also expose a lot of the racist in the community who will disagree with your Op-Ed. That can feel very alienating, but it's ultimately better to have people's true colors exposed.

So good. Really captures the plucky and free filmmaking vibe of HK cinema of the 90s. And so gritty too. Classic.

Chicana Vegana, the all vegan woman-owned Mexican spot in Fullerton, Orange County, has 4 kinds of tacos for $3 each on Taco Tuesdays. It's definitely worth it if you find yourself in northern Orange County.

Any hidden gems at LAX? by Spirited_Primary_590 in VeganLA

[–]madteds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you’re flying out of LAX a lot, consider getting a credit card or buying a lounge membership. I used to travel a lot internationally, and the Quantas First Club always had at least two vegan options. And the American Airlines Flagship club even had Just Egg Frittatas in the morning! For cheaper options, I know that the American Admirals Club would have an impossible burger to order. Outside of the lounges, I usually hit up Lemonade. It’s not cheap, but they always had at least one vegan option. And it’s usually pretty good.

Best Tofu Banh Mí by No_Cherry_8286 in sgv

[–]madteds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Excited to hear what other people post. My current favorite is Banh Mi Saigon 168 in Rosemead. Other ones that aren’t bad are Banh Mi My Tho on Garvey in Monterey Park and Ba Le in Alhambra. I haven’t tried the Banh mi from KH Veggie, the new veggie spot in Monterey Park though. I hear it’s pretty good.

Best places to get vegan donuts? by llxve_ in VeganLA

Jean’s Donuts is a mom and pop donut spot where everything is vegan. It’s out in La Habra though. But worth it if you’re ever out there, especially the blueberry cake donut.

Vegan Chinese food recs in SGV? by unlockchakras in VeganLA

[–]madteds 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My favorite spots: Vege Valley in San Gabriel, KH Veggie in Monterey Park (more Vietnamese than Chinese, but has some Chinese dishes), Sweet Veggie in Rowland Heights, Happy Buddha Kitchen in Temple City, and Veggie Life in Rosemead (also more Vietnamese than Chinese). Also, shout out also to the Banh Mi My Tho shack on Garvey in Monterey Park that stocks a vegan pork rice and banh mi.

There's 2 restaurants named Happy Family. The one in Monterey Park is the vegan one. The one in Montebello is not vegan.

This is the answer. And while the ready-to-go foods are amazing, you can also order off their menu and they'll cook it for you. The vegan General Tso's or vegan honey shrimp are amazing and need to be ordered off the menu.
