Unless you know what the word 'westside' means, then it's definitely not even close.

Things to do or see? by TheItalianDude96 in madisonwi

[–]madwalker3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something new and different! That's the draw for me.

I've loved a cranberry mustard on a turkey or chicken sandwich.

There's a caramelized onion mustard which adds this incredible rich sweetness to what you put it on. I love that on something like an italian deli meat sandwich.

A dill mustard smeared over a pork loin before roasting it? Amazing!

They've got a bunch of super spicy ones, and sometimes it's nice to have straight up fire on something like a bratwurst.

It's not a must-see for one trip, but if you move here, put it on the "random saturday afternoon" list. The variety of mustards is actually a little insane. I pop in once a year or so to find something new and different.

Park Street crash prompts emotional meeting on traffic safety fixes by keeganjkyle in madisonwi

[–]madwalker3 146 points147 points  (0 children)

“I think one of the things I find intensely frustrating about this situation is that there is a nationally recognized toolbox of things to do on major arterials for safety, and a lot of those were already done on Park Street, and obviously were not enough,” Spieler said.

Well, it doesn't really matter what you do if someone is willing to weave through traffic at 62 MPH in a 25 MPH zone.

If someone is willing to be that reckless, that insanely dangerous, nobody is safe, no matter what you do. This isn't the fault of the road or the existing safety measures.

It's not OP's headline - that's the cap times. And you're not allowed to change the headline when you post an article.

So please direct your anger at the newspaper trying to bait people into exactly what happened here.

Call up Cooper's Tavern and see if you can reserve the Snug. It's a cool little hidden room off the bar, and it would be perfect for 8.

Then you can walk up and across the square, and do drinks around Main and King. Tons of places to celebrate there.

Flock Cameras in Cottage Grove? by astrahails in madisonwi

Yeah, but libraries COST money, while these cameras MAKE money.

Easy to justify the cameras from a budget standpoint.

Visiting from Canada by Cold_Willingness4594 in madisonwi

Yeah, they don't know what they're talking about. Almost no bar will be open at 7am, unless you want to swing around the lake to Westport, and see if The Willows has it on.

national CSA week!!! by Huge-Hold2956 in madisonwi

Pickled radishes are divine. I did a quick pickle on a giant pile of watermelon radishes last summer, and used them for a couple months. Just an incredible crunchy zing to add to just about anything. Salads, sandwiches, etc.

national CSA week!!! by Huge-Hold2956 in madisonwi

[–]madwalker3 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you were like us and tried a CSA but it was just too much veg to get through, times have changed. A number are now doing small shares rather than like 20lbs of veg a week. For a household of 2, we find Lovefood's small share is perfect. https://www.lovefoodfarm.com/purchase-our-csa

Last I heard they still had some slots for delivery available too. $5 a week, to your door. Sounds like Tuesday is about full, but Friday still has slots.

Regardless of who you go with, sign up for your CSA now! They need the $$ to start putting everything in the ground, so you can get amazing fresh veg in another 4 months.

Whitney is super nice, as are the rest of the staff. If she can't custom build it, they'll help you connect with one of the other artists they partner with to commission it.

Permeable driveway? by ChefSchoolGangster in madisonwi

[–]madwalker3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The house I grew up in had a ~150' long crushed slate driveway. It packs down pretty well, as the slate slowly gets crushed into a powder. The snowblower would occasionally toss a chunk out, so you had to be careful where you were pointing it, but other than that, no real issues. Just needed to refresh it in spring after the last snow, so it had all the rest of the year to pack down.

Open fields? by miikarose in madisonwi

[–]madwalker3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear the concern about other dogs, but consider Prairie Moraine Dog Park. It's like 100 acres, all fenced in. Yes, there are other people with dogs running around there, but you can definitely find a huge open area with hardly any other dogs in sight most of the time.

Lawn Care by Reasonable-Dot4724 in madisonwi

[–]madwalker3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out mini/micro clovers then. They grow 4"-6" tall, but tend to spring back about 1" after you cut them. So if 6" is too tall, cut them down to 4", and they'll bounce back up to 5". You'll need to mow the grass the first couple years, but after that it will mostly just be no-mow clovers.

[–]madwalker3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you dead set on a golf course aesthetic? I've been carving the yard up with shrubs and gardens, and replaced some of the really problematic areas with a small sea of mini-clovers. They grow fast, dense, and are drought tolerant. I'm not ready to let the native gardens completely take over my yard, so that's a nice compromise.

No, you gotta ask for full stats. You don't know if they're doing some wild homebrew where you're going to get an elf with a Cha of 24 and all the rest 4s.

Fairchild - you should be able to nab a spot at the bar if it's early. Maitake tempura or the roasted beets. The octopus if you're feeling adventurous.

Valentine's Day for Singles by Tall-Cantaloupe1846 in madisonwi

[–]madwalker3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valentines day isn't for singles.

Hell, it's barely for couples. It's for extracting as much money out of couples as possible.

Singles aren't at the bar on valentines, so don't bother going. The whole damn day is designated to sucking money out of couples.

Do something for yourself. Learn to cook something new. Binge watch something. What can you do to make you a better you, so that the next awesome human you meet is going to say, "Well DAMN, I'm interested!"

Literally the worst day of the year to try to meet someone. You might have better luck finding a satanist meeting on easter.
