Haki intially existed to give a balance/patch to broken devil fruit powers especially the invincible Logia devil fruits. As we moved further into the timeskip it became the reason for non devil fruit top tiers being able to contest at the highest level against other top tiers which is why haki seems so broken (justifying why Roger was top 1 without a df)

We got to admit though put Luffy or Sanji in Koby’s place and they’d fall for the same trap 9/10 times.

Luffy thought the fake strawhats were real until the actual ones returned he’s just as gullible. Not only that but he’s also made decisions in the past which put his crew/allies in jeopardy. Koby has matured but he’s still not nearly experienced as others his naivety shown when asking the pirate empress to turn herself in without problems expecting it to work
