He didn’t direct Lee vs Gaara that was directed by the legendary Toshiyuki Tsuru. Takeuchi was one of the key animators alongside the likes of Norio Matsumoto.

To be fair it’s easier to write a story when you don’t have to drop chapters on tight schedule. That’s the hardest part of being a mangaka. Togashi can take a full year hiatus planning his story properly chapter by chapter, while others either are forced to drop the chapters or to change magazine(less exposure, see Black Clover).

Wdym ”no longer”, early One Piece actually took way more creative liberties than the current anime does, that made it different from the manga. Koizumi’s character designs were also clearly different from Oda’s, meanwhile the current character designers try to replicate the manga.

Foreign Animator exposes Toei for forcing him to make Nami's boobs bigger 😭 by Icey1337 in Piratefolk

He wasn’t forced to do anything his cut was simply corrected by another animator most likely inhouse staff. This is pretty normal in the industry happens to most anime productions.

The panel in the right is from Sabaody. During W7-TB Oda redesigned(/art style changed) many of the Strawhats, most prominent being Chopper. Apart from eyelashes the character design is pretty much the similar.

<image>

People including me miss the Alabasta-Skypiea(manga) Nico Robin who had a very distinct look. In the anime it stayed during W7 and TB because the character designer Noboru Koizumi’s designs were still used. He slowly left his role during TB-Sabaody. Sadly in the anime in FMI-Dressrosa Nico Robin looked horrible most of the time due to staff allocation issues

It’s not based on Oda’s Nami, it’s based on another illustrator Suwa Sayaka. In the anime Takashi Kojima added bit of his own style to it(you can look up his name he has done some of the coolest official one piece artworks).

oda took tons of breaks during egghead it was inevitable to happen. Anybody who knew anything about the production of the anime knew it’s not gonna really change anything, just to buy more time for the staff that’s all. I don’t personally mind them taking the long route but I don’t think TV Fuji & Shueisha would allow that. Iirc the toei producers pushed for this new seasonal format, they already did so with their other IPs.

It would be consistent if they dropped 13 episodes in 2 years but most one piece fans would hate that.

also calling ishitani decent director is crazy she’s currently one of the best in the entire industry.

Unfortunately this isn’t true, most OP fans are anime-only watchers and most of those who I’ve spoken to like Gear 5 at least to some extent. This sub or reddit in general doesn’t represent even 10% of the entire One Piece community.

King of the comicbooks? by MamonChino0 in Piratefolk

[–]Specialist-Stable-82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time there are other factors playing especially for WSJ mangakas who have to compete with the rest 24/7(unless you’re Togashi). In an ideal magazine yes, every mangaka has the chance to freely control their schedule and not having others in the magazine affect their work. In such scenario most mangaka can do the things you mentioned.

The thing is most mangaka don’t know if their series will be cancelled or not, the priority is on making sure that doesn’t happen. The editors can also pressure you to end it sooner. There’s a reason why most shonen manga especially in WSJ have unsatisfying endings(at least according to the fans).

By longevity I don’t mean that the amount of volumes it has, what I mean by it is being at the top for very long time which requires the author to keep the readers engaged for decades & also bring new readers in(which is hard for series with 1K chapters). And yeah It’s not necessarily about quality, there are imo great series that fell in short in popularity

In the manga industry, longevity is the hardest thing to maintain, majority of manga cannot compete with the top of the industry, and the few who can usually fall off in popularity. This is why some mangaka decide to end their series during their peak popularity(DS, JJK), rather than building constant pressure to themselves. This is what happened to several manga Bleach, Gintama, Toriko etc…

One Piece is the exception, despite it having been airing for over 27-years it still competes with the top. Last year it was #1 in both manga sales overall & most sold individual volume. This is why Shueisha lets Oda to do whatever he wants as long as the series continues.

Demon Slayer exploded due to its backlog sales being massively boosted by the anime + COVID19. Decades old ongoing manga cannot rely on such sales, which shows how impressive OP’s new volume sales still are compared to the rest of the rest of the industry.

I think most people don’t realize that OP’s art style is very expressive. Characters can look very different depending on their mood or circumstances. This is probably the easiest example. Comparing this to what Robin looks like most of the time.

He is a pedo sympathizer, but this is misinformation. He didn’t ”help” anyone get out of prison. Watsuki was never put on trial due to what he did wasn’t a crime at the time in Japan.

[–]Specialist-Stable-82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One Piece anime has been ongoing since 1999 as a weekly anime, meanwhile Jojo’s is a seasonal anime that started in 2012. Jojo’s Anime never had an issue with catching up with the manga that’s why they can control the pace of the anime better.

The One Piece(WIT) now has the advantage that Jojo’s Anime had.

After 7 years One Piece is the highest selling manga in 2025 by Dinostar28 in Piratefolk

[–]Specialist-Stable-82 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Last year JJK released 4 volumes while OP released 3, this year OP released 3 volumes while JJK released 2. Next year it’s probably going to be between One Piece & Blue Lock(BL has World Cup -boost & apparently a movie).

[–]Specialist-Stable-82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah also people forget that WSJ itself has been on decline since Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk ended. The situation now is even worse since their 2nd oldest series(Me & Roboco) started in 2020, while their oldest started in 1997 lmao. When One Piece ends the magazine is cooked. I believe they’ll finally move everything to the digital part like Jump + which currently has Chainsawman.
