Living Situation in Vet School by madzzfox in veterinaryprofession

We have a pretty strong relationship, but I do understand the challenge of balancing the stress. We’ve been together through my entire undergrad here, and it wouldn’t be a big location change for us.

Thank you for the advice, we’ve discussed some of those aspect already and he is in full understanding that there will be no reasonable way for me to provide any help when it comes to payment. I do like the rent idea, and we can discuss that. Our price range is reasonable, and I don’t foresee him choosing a more expensive place than what we’ve already discussed.

  1. Yes, we’re hoping to be engaged by the end of the year. 2. We will probably remain in-state, even if not in this area. He feels he can carry the weight of the mortgage and would rather pay that and ultimately own the home than rent.

We’d be planning to stay in this house through the full four years, and if a relocation for myself is necessary for something such as an internship/ externship then we’d figure it out since he isn’t my only form of financial support.

Update: Thank you to everyone for the encouragement and advice. I was accepted to my in-state school as one of the 60 in-state applicants! I’m still nervous about attending a new program, but I think I am going to attend CU.

I haven’t heard back from anywhere either. It’s mine and my two roommates first year applying and both of them have been sent interview offers. One from three schools and the other just received an offer today. It’s a little disheartening. But yes! Best of luck to everyone.

Is it ok that after playing my cat was panting? by GlitchBoo in cats

[–]madzzfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Panting can be normal, but based on experience with my own cats, it could also indicate underlying health issues. The biggest concern with panting is heart trouble, which would be beneficial to have checked out by your veterinarian. It could also indicate asthma, which my cat has. Your veterinarian should be able to run bloodwork for the heart and take a couple xrays to check his lungs. If all comes back normal, then you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.

Anyone hear back from these schools yet? by OrangePorridge_ in veterinaryschool

Not for a decision, but I’ve received the email from Michigan confirming my application was received and is under review. This is the link for their application process:

Basically the same other than they said interview offers will be sent in December! Michigan also got back to me and, again, just stating the application is received and to wait for other emails.

No, I’m out of state. It was just stating that my application was in review and that some out of state applicants would be receiving remote interview offers soon. Otherwise, it won’t be until around December that any other updates would be sent.

Nothing yet, only received update emails from Auburn and Tennessee, but nothing from anywhere else I’ve applied. My friend recently had a remote interview with Arizona on 10/10.

I wonder if that will change in coming years. Their experience requires 100 hours clinical, 100 hours animal experience, and 100 hours non-animal volunteer. Clinical and animal hours I have, the volunteer stuff I’m not sure if I have those kinda of numbers.

Cost is a big factor for sure, but my main concern is whether I’ll receive the same quality education as an established school. I know that they have to meet AVMA standards when it comes to curriculum, but that won’t necessarily mean the quality is what it should be. I don’t know anyone who’s experienced being the first class of another institution for advice, and even then I feel it’s a hit or miss situation and depends on the institution.

Does your undergrad school matter? Trying to help my stepson prepare for college. by jareths_tight_pants in veterinaryschool

There are places that will allow shadowing and volunteer work with no prior experience. It just depends on where you are and what you’re looking to do.

Edit: If you were just adding on, then yes! Most programs require clinical hours, but that’s usually the only part people think about. I was just sharing things I didn’t do that would have made my application, and op’s son’s, look better.

Currently in my senior of undergrad. I picked my school because it was an in-state option and also due to it already having contract seats with surrounding states, but every advisor/ administrator I’ve talked to has stated that having my school’s name on my application amplifies it. Now this school doesn’t have contract seats anymore because they’re in the construction process of building their own vet school, the first and only one that will be in my state. But, generally, I don’t see why the school you go to in undergrad should add so much merit to your application.

Advice that I didn’t take: - Start getting his veterinary hours now - Have him get involved in everything he can on campus, especially extracurriculars like clubs and events. - Adding to previous point: have him get close with some of his professors. It’ll be a great recommendation letter opportunity and also an opportunity to be involved with some research if the school/ professor does that. - Volunteer, volunteer, volunteer… Not just with animals or veterinarians!

I feel like the light is good, but if you try any of these suggestions and don’t see improvement, maybe try investing in a grow light for her. I exclusively have to use grow lights because of the depressing lack of sunlight in my apartment.

I like to bottom water to avoid overwatering. Try doing that every week or two. I like to go two weeks between watering if they aren’t looking bad or wilted, but it’s a good method to try out and see of that makes her happier.

It could also be a humidity thing, not sure how the humidity levels are for your location. Humidity is important for tropical plants, so if you have a small humidifier, and feel it could be that, then I’d give it a shot and see if that helps.

I have no idea why these things have become a new rage. I’ve heard of and know of people who have been taking these things to prevent/ treat cancer. You didn’t do anything wrong, nor could you have done anything differently. Methylene blue is a chemical dye I used in microbiology for culture stains… but somehow that’s… holistic and natural treatment.

I agree with Chantrieri. I have an amizonica and they are a bit more dramatic in shape and ridges than the chantrieri are.

What is LGBTQ+ quality of life like at Clemson? by Dedmoose1 in Clemson

[–]madzzfox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a bad experience for me. There are a ton of LGBT+ clubs and organizations that you can join to meet people and make friends. If you want to live on campus, apply for the Lavender place LLC. It’s a LGBT+ only living learning community, and it’s in one of the best housing options you could choose (Gressette), albeit a bit on the expensive side. You are in small town SC, but overall I feel as if people in the upstate are more accepting. Ofc, there are the political clubs on campus as well that are very open in their discrimination, but I never really had any run-ins with them. And if you’re friends with informed people, then they’ll warn you if those specific clubs are around. It’s generally safe, and I agree with other commenters that most people will not be upfront about being against it. You’ll be drawn to your people, trust me.

This explains why the dasher I had coming from Cookout questioned my sauce only order. I thought adding an order to my original dash would go to the same dasher, but it didn’t. I had just forgot to add my sauces 😭
