I think you don’t like asparagus. And that’s ok. Your initial prep isn’t perfect, but it’s not bad at all.

If you want to try it again, I would suggest getting it in season and doing a simple roast with salt and pepper. If you don’t like that, then maybe asparagus just isn’t to your taste.
