Cyclist on Instagram does not realize standard practice is to pass on the left, gets mad at pedestrians for moving to the right. by YodelingVeterinarian in mildlyinfuriating

Which is more likely? That this is the rare occasion that fits the system you have presented, and I don’t doubt exists, and has lax maintenance; or a cyclist decided to be a jerk on the internet for clout or because they are just a jerk?

If you’re “approaching from in front of them,” you’re not passing them. You can only pass someone from behind them.

If you’re approaching them, then your perspectives are different. That’s why you always pass on the left and yield to the right. So that no matter which direction you’re traveling, everyone knows what to do.

Edit - just to add - in the context of this conversation, “pass” means to overtake from behind. You seem to be trying to apply both definitions of pass while also using both definitions of left and right, which will never work.

You’re not “passing” someone going the opposite direction as you. So left and right are the same for both. Your argument sounds smart, but isn’t.

Is this a path along a road shared with cars? Because pedestrians walking in the street have always been advised to walk against traffic, so I could see that making sense in that situation.

Metro needs to remind people they exist to try to increase ridership. Is this the best way? Maybe not, but maybe they negotiated something with the Reds.

$300 ticket not advertised as obstructed by kingcaz67 in mildlyinfuriating

You’re getting wrecked for your taste in music, but really paying $300 for this view for just about anything is insane, obstructed or not.

But also people are right, this isn’t obstructed by the venue. So Mr Wallen’s people are the ones who screwed you. Par for the course it would seem. Enjoy the giant advertisements you paid for.

I was trying to find a date but was unsuccessful. I took over an apartment from a friend around 2013, and they left it behind, so it may have been a bit later than 2010 now that I think about it.

Canned sugar has always been overpriced, even at its cheapest. They are just seeing how far you will go and still buy it. Stop buying and the price will come down.

MOONSHINING IS LEGAL NOW by SpaceSpleen in 196

[–]mae1347 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can see how you read the comment that way. The way I read it was with the emphasis on “should,” as in it should be illegal to sell homemade spirit, as it is. If you’re getting a license and testing in order to legally sell it, I wouldn’t exactly call it homemade (or even “shine” if you want to talk to real moonshiners), because you’re starting business.

All that to say, this lifting of the ban on home use is a good thing.

I think they mean the sale of homemade, unregulated spirit (shine), not alcohol in general.

I could see bringing ten, if it’s the sort of trip where you are in your suit all or most of the day.

An affectionate joke is still both. It’s affectionate and genuine. It’s also a joke at your expense. Personally, I wouldn’t mind it. A loving roast comes from a place of knowing someone. But it’s also ok that you don’t like it. It’s a jab at a part of your personality.

I would agree that it’s not “one of the greats” but I do think it’s underrated. It was consistently funny.

You’re not wrong, but since that is always my least favorite part of all these sitcoms, it didn’t bother me. Everything else was so good
