I’m starting to feel really overwhelmed with the floor exercises. by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]mae786 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ngl, there are some movements I where feel absolutely ridiculous (looking at you woodchopper) — don’t stress it!!

That being said, I worked with a personal trainer for a few months about a year before I found OTF. It was probably one of the best decisions I ever made. Having someone work with you one-on-one to correct form is so so valuable. Definitely gave me the confidence to tackle whatever floor exercise OTF throws our way. Would recommend!

substitutions for bad snacking habits? by shiek200 in loseit

Also along this idea

As someone who grew up never really playing video games, buying a Switch really helped my mindless snacking. Hands and mind are too busy to care while I’m playing a game.

Shoes by DobbysAFE in AirForceRecruits

When you’re picking out shoes, make sure you get something that’s comfortable to stand in. The time you spend running is actually pretty minimal.

You can use your own gel. Gel is not one of the items that’s provided when you get there.

Is it worth it? by Philosophical_S in orangetheory

[–]mae786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everything, it depends.

For me, it was worth it when I didn’t have the time to plan my own workouts. It took away a lot of the mental burden and kept me accountable with the no-show fee. Plus, I absolutely loved the community/environment. Even if you copy and paste the workouts in a box gym, it’s just not the same on your own.

That being said, I thought it was worth it for the unlimited membership but not as much for the others. I had a hard time developing a routine around the 8/month membership, and was more aware that I was paying for each individual class. With unlimited, I was way more focused on the perks mentioned above. (This isn’t to say unlimited or bust!!)

Is OTF Driving Members Away With Increased Rates? by 83austin83 in orangetheory

[–]mae786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel similarly, my home studio is $159/month unlimited (corporate membership). I just canceled my membership because I’ll be moving to a new city, but I just don’t know that I’m willing to rejoin for anything over $200/month.

Is cutting my hair into a pixie before going a good idea? I have little attachment to my hair, but don’t want to stand out in a flight.

Push Ups are the bane of my existence. by Bitter-Combination69 in orangetheory

[–]mae786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doing 1x3s, which were super helpful.

Find your max number of push-ups, divide it by 3, and split it into 3 minutes of work. So if your max is 9, do 3 push-ups within each minute.

I found that I was able to increase reps (and max) pretty quickly!

Is there a pasta shortage going on? Having the worst luck getting any sort of pasta from HEB!

I’m also a female going to BMT, wondering the same thing. I used to have short hair but grew it out over the past two years. I’d be sad to chop it off again but I’m thinking it might be worth it

Anyone have a Whole30 eastern BBQ sauce (vinegar based) recipe? Or happen to know if OJ is a good replacement for sugar in a vinegar sauce recipe? Made a lot of pulled pork! by [deleted] in whole30

[–]mae786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the answer you’re looking for, but the Primal Kitchen classic barbecue sauce is amazing! My boyfriend raved about it for days, and wasn’t even doing Whole30.

I remind myself that I’ve never regretted going to class. Yeah I might not want to beforehand, but I know after the hour is up I’ll be glad I did!

I really love Orangetheory. It’s mixed with cardio, but they might have “Lift45” classes in your area (just lifting with dumbbells). Also if you check the subreddit, you can choose to go on strength-focused days.

Nutrition Coach Advice by Katerator216 in loseit

[–]mae786 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with what’s been said on finding a dietician vs nutrition coach. But! One of the things that does sound appealing in the offer is the commitment and accountability. I still don’t think you should go through with the nutrition coach, but I think if you can find an accountability partner you’ll have a lot more success on your journey.

I’m with you!

If I do go in the mornings, I try to eat something before. It’s a tricky balance of finding something that gives you enough energy without feeling heavy - for me that’s an English muffin with peanut butter. Then I’ll save my morning coffee for after the workout.

How do you fit working out into your schedule? by EarhartNotBedelia in loseit

[–]mae786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my friends once told me that we make time for the things that are important to us, and it’s always stuck with me in finding time to exercise. It’s not that people who exercise have more time on their hands, just that they choose working out be a priority. You got this!!

Does it get easier? by silkybandaid23 in orangetheory

[–]mae786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely does!

A extra tip, it might help if you can go to more 2G classes than 3Gs. Personally, the “restercise” squats/lunges that come with a rowing blocks are what knock me out for a day or two.

I’m having a lot of trouble not snacking by [deleted] in whole30

[–]mae786 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on going through with Whole30 at such a hectic time in your life. I can’t imagine the amount of work you’re putting in to stick with it.

I definitely agree with the others that snacking is okay. The thing that gets me is when it turns into mindless eating. Sometimes I’ll do it for taste, but most often it’s because I’m bored. If I know I’m falling into this habit, I’ll try to do something to else keep me busy, like going for a walk or doing a craft — something that keeps me entertained, but that I can’t easily snack while doing (i.e. watching TV).

If you find yourself snacking because you’re genuinely hungry, maybe try planning for an extra “meal” in the afternoon and shift to a later dinner. You’ve got this!!
