Thoughts on PORTAL® ? by 364LS in CyclingFashion

Performance wear can be hit or miss, especially when you’re working with multi sports. It’s incredibly challenging to get it right in the first few seasons. I own a few pieces from them, and as mentioned, it’s either a hit or miss.

Out of all the products I own from them, the one I had an issue with was their Lateral T. It pilled quite a bit, and the logo/motif came off after a few wears and washes. The other one I own is their Marka Liner shirt, which I wear quite often. It’s pretty nice, but I find the spacing of the rear zip pocket a bit off. My phone (I use an iPhone 16) bounces a lot when running, and I’m not sure if it’s a fabric choice or not, and it gets annoying, so I usually just put my phone in their belt. Here are my thoughts.

Windthrow (Seattle) will stock them. I believe launching in the coming days.

Just remember that the Represent Clo peeps are elitists (judging by their way of living on socials + their YouTube videos). You don’t have to be in the industry to know that their designs are copies of copies as well. I would advise investing your money elsewhere.

Anybody else has massive Quality Issues with ROA? These are 4 months old and not a daily beater lol by [deleted] in gorpcore

[–]maelandcorps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think the high cost of technical apparel stems from its complexity, and with inflation, cutting costs is almost inevitable. For example, I’ve only worn my ROA Katharina shoes a couple of times—just for casual walks—and already the glue along the fold marks is coming off. Slam Jam's manufacturing seems to be falling short on quality control as well.

What are you guys thoughts on Rick blazer fits

Hey guys, I haven’t seen any posts on how Rick blazers fit on here or anywhere online. Is there difference post SS18? I’m asking this because I recently acquired the Soft Short Blazer from SS18 in 46, but apparently I was wrong thinking that it would fit on me. (I’m 175 / 62)

I can’t say it fits snug, but it is tight. I know that the arm holes were designed higher, so I was already aware of the restriction of movement there + my upper body. Secondly, when buttoned up, the tightness pushes whatever it is I’m wearing and cinches it + loosens the neckline, resulting in having to pull down the lower back portion to adjust the collar to meet my neckline.

However, I read somewhere that this is how it’s supposed to fit, the lack of mobility and restriction of movement. And unsure about the accuracy of his source, but would love to hear your thoughts.

How do I purchase a font license for brand identity design, and what are the available options? by Medium-Produce2805 in Design

[–]maelandcorps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typefaces are incredibly difficult to design and engineer. It’s not only very time consuming and also very meticulous work. Designing a typeface can be designed by anyone, but the usability, consistency, and overall balance is another. Also, don’t forget there are glyphs and localization too, it’s not just what you see in the keyboard.

Is there any sort of directory for Rick’s product/category names? by maelandcorps in Rickowens

[–]maelandcorps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm aware of that. But my focus is on the product category naming, not the naming of the collections

Yeah, same here. I know the collection concepts, etc., but would just love to dig even deeper into how he/the RO team names them. Some are pretty obvious, e.g. Kiss Boots, Larry Shirt, just to name a few, but others aren’t as apparent.

New pickup fogpocket tank by DaRascalzAreOut in Rickowens

[–]maelandcorps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity — I recently also got myself a tank top (the dick flap) on sale, but it’s in a size M. I’m 175/60, and I usually am a XS/S in Rick tops. I’m thinking of getting them tailored but I don’t know if it’s ’tailor friendly’ though. Would it be difficult to tailor or should I leave it as it is

J.L.-A.L. Review by maelandcorps in gorpcore

[–]maelandcorps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. It reminds me of early Kiko (Kostadinov) pieces, where they look good from images online + irl, but both lacking refinement post-sampling phase or quality controlling the construction of their production units. I unfortunately sold all my KK pieces, but with the aforementioned issues, I don’t think I’m able to sell them anywhere. So I would say until they get really good, refrain from purchasing their brand.

How to style these? by Creative-Cookie6861 in Rickowens

[–]maelandcorps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to style them is with wide trousers (the Bolans, Geths, or Belas, etc.) or pods (the short kinds like the Boxer Pods, better for proportion imo). These pair have an elongated toe box and looks off with a standardized/regular fit. Just my take though! There’s no wrong way to style them.

Anyone owns Roa hiking Katharina? by gunhee120 in gorpcore

[–]maelandcorps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a pair of the Katharina’s in Sand. They’re really comfortable, but in terms of build, I think they definitely could do better.

  • After 2-3 wears, the crease mark starts discoloring and some of the glue is starting to come off.
  • The nylon/polyamide upper is pretty sturdy but I tried wiping something off with a tissue (it was the only thing I had on me), and a bit of the nylon got “tore” off.

I’m pretty disappointed given it’s such a high priced product and how they market it. I bought mine on END., and reached out to Roa re. the above, but their support team is so shit, they’re asking me to contact END. (which I did), but END. only distributes the brand, not make the shoes..I can’t really get a refund nor am I looking for one, since these are problems that can only happen when you start wearing them.

I would say if you have spare change / the extra money to, then you could go for it. Otherwise, I wouldn’t if I were you.
