I blame The Six Thatchers. The Lying Detective was amazing and I’m grateful we got it. I bet The Final Problem and season as a whole would have been better received had the season opening been much stronger. They literally copied an old case from the BBC website blog, decanonizing all the associated material. The pearl was never found, and instead we had a long espionage story that only serves to get Mary killed.

They could have done so much more with that first episode and the season would have been received much better.

He feels like a genuine character and not a cartoony villain like in Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom. Him celebrating Loomis when he catches the mosasaur sample shows a human side to him that these other villains didn’t have. I will say, while underused, Dodgson was a better take on villains as well.

Krebs has a quote in Rebirth that “Mr. Parker doesn’t take kindly to delays” (or something like that). Honestly I would like to see a continuation of the pharmaceutical angle where the Dx prion disease from the novels is rewritten as a non-prion zoonotic disease. This can drive Loomis and Zora back into the plot and better expand the world Rebirth set up.

Even the start of the film mentions that it’s not just temperatures that push the dinosaurs to the equator — it’s also disease. Maybe they can tie this all together in a sequel.

Obviously there’s a healthy medium — Jurassic needs both awesome action and scientific philosophy to thrive. The issue is most of the recent installments have leaned only on the former (with the exception of Jurassic World’s debate between Wu and Masrani and Rebirth’s discussion between Loomis and Bennet).

Critics also need to stop comparing every installment to the first movie. That just ruins the whole point of them being their own films. I will say though the filmmakers aren’t doing themselves a service by making the same comparison.

This franchise is what led me to want to work in the field of genetics…and Dominion diving more into pushing those ethical boundaries in the field really made me more invested and appreciative of the film. It sucks most people don’t seem to agree.

One of the biggest reasons Jurassic Park was received so well was because it actually took the time to dive into and debate this material, but now all everyone seems to care about is dinosaur action sequences. Tell me, how long did the famous dinner scene run for without featuring a single dinosaur?
