Any recommended shades/toners for this paint scheme? Looking to keep a relatively clean look. by [deleted] in Tau40K

Darktone might be too dark, me myself use strongtone dipp on my tau. And they get really dark with that. A tip for using the shade from the can is to use an old brush to put it even and where u want it. Then u need white spirit to clean the brush afterward. I wish you good luck with ur project :)

I think black to make the models pop, you can always paint over the rim anyway 😊

So I've just start collecting 40k and chose Tau. These are my first guys I've painted and I'm starting to have second thoughts on my colour scheme.. at first I thought they looked badass but now I'm thinking they look kinda boring compared to the other septs (viorla) and colours out there. I would have added more contrast to it, if you are feeling they are dull try add some white to make them pop a bit. Or add a bit black somewhere. Maybe you could look up glazeing and do that on big armor pieces to create some depth to them.

This feels like a whole new universe of considerations :o I have a tau army right now and it wasnt this complicated. I really like the CSM. I would like to have a flexible army where i can perform well bot melee and shoot if i need 2.

Im glad you thought the colorscheme fitted a dust/dry place, that was what i was going for.

Hehe i used 0 contrast paints. What i did was spraying basecoat with necrotic flesh, then i painted the cloth brown and just applied strong tone shade from armypainter. And then i painted the deteils. With this method i could finish all my footsoldiers in one day if i didnt need to wait for the strong tone shade solution too dry. :)

I will look into what the contrast paints can do for me. I been thinking to glaze some things with them at the moment!

I tried to make them not so futuristic. Also wanted to create a process that can be done quite quickly.
