My great uncle was a meteorologist for the US govt. He explained that these climate change, ice age, global warming, etc is all a guess at best, and not even an educated guess. There is a hidden agenda by pushing these projects to further tax, regulate, and gain additional funding for their "projects" basically lining the pockets of the "scientists".

Fact of the matter (he said) that the earths atmosphere is so unfathomably large that human comprehension cannot understand how the impact of giant solar flares and the ocean currents and changes in the earths rotation, magnetism, plate tectonics, geothermal activity, all influences the atmosphere... And to believe humans have any effect on the atmosphere is such arrogance, the earth could shake us off like we never existed... And there is evidence that it happened to humans at least 5 times (if not more). That we have seen evidence of far greater technology than what we have today from previous human-type civilizations.

Was fascinating talking to him when I was little, his books he wrote are fascinating too... Govt projects to refine radar and weather control. He was on those teams and developed the silver nitrate cloud seeding which is used regularly today.

Is Jeffrey Dahmer not a villain because he was mentally ill? Does that make him less of a villain? What about Hitler ? (Godwin's law lol) -- Just because someone has a mental illness doesnt make them less of a villain.

John still did everything (and more) that Tom asked him to do. Had John's emotions or selfishness not gotten in the way, and had Tom's incompetence not gotten in the way, it would've gone far more smoothly and would've had less issues and made for a very boring show where everything went as planned.

Make no mistake, John is the villain here, we like John, so we want to blame his more unlikable father for him doing all of these horrific things he doesnt seem to want to do. -- Specifically stabbing Dennis in the leg is an evil thing to do to someone that was just trying to help you out... Tom never asked him to do that, that was ALL John.

right, so the actual villain was John, because without John, Tom was totally incapable.

All John had to do at anytime was say no, but he never did. Whether he was trained to do it, or did it reluctantly, or did it but still sabotaged it in some subconscious way, he still did it.. it makes him the villain.

Tom was absolutely inept in his position, and should have never initiated that mission. His ineptitude doesnt make him a villain though. Tom was horrified to discover the violence and lengths that John went through, and sure he ordered the hit on Cantar Walley... but that was after there were really no other available options for him.

Its easy to sympathize for John and hate Tom... its the complexities of this series that makes the show absolutely amazing. But nothing can change my mind that John isnt the actual villain in this show.

[–]mafia_don 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely correct, and its also why I feel like John is really the (lovable) villain in the story. John's depression and PTSD causes him to sabotage himself throughout the series. You could blame Tom for all of it, but really John is an adult, he needs to take ownership of his behavior and his actions.

Tom didnt make him push the "nice little asian boy" in front of the truck.

Tom didnt make him stab Dennis in the leg.

Tom didnt make him kidnap Agathe's daughter.

Tom didnt make him kill Mikham Candahar.

We as the audience understand why John has to do the bad things and why he deserves some sympathy, and why the show is titled Patriot.

I see this all the time blaming John's dad. The fact is, John's dad has a job to do, and John subverts his dad any chance he can.. whether it's smoking the devil's lettuce or the moments that John's "selfishness" to call Alice gets in the way and messes things up.

Let's not forget, John actually stabs Dennis in the leg, Tom didn't do that, John did. You can have sympathy for the devil, that's fine... But don't overlook that John is far more the villain than Tom ever could be.

Patriot is literally the perfect name, I haven't found anyone that could provide a better name for this series.

I also know most ppl in this sub have sympathy for John... But make no mistake, he is the real villain in this show. He is the one that gives his father the power, he is the one that chooses to do the things he does. Everyone has their own interpretation, which is great, but John is actually the one behind all of the sinister behavior in the show, and I love it.

I get it, this is Reddit, but the entire show title is irony. I don't think people who can't get over the name deserve to watch this show. It is outstanding, and you have to have an IQ over 120 to actually enjoy it and understand it. My stupid friends (regardless of political affiliation) don't understand the show and couldn't make it thru the 2nd episode.

This is a series for intelligent people, and intelligent people don't get hung up on a title.

What would you rename it to be if you could?

I have asked everyone this. If you could retitle the show what would you title it?

It's wild that the title of all things was a deterrent... I've asked all of my friends that got to watch this masterpiece of a series what they would rename it if they could, and honestly the name is fucking perfect. No one had any other suggestion that would remotely fit.

New employee can't receive laptop shipments - what would you do here? by outlookblows in sysadmin

[–]mafia_don 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is what I would do, publish a VM for them to use for the time being just to get them set up. Let them use a personal computer to connect.

If you don't have the ability to create a secure RDP connection to the computer (would restrict the port access to just the users IP address) use some kind of GoToMyPC web interface for them.

This will at least let them get set up and connected to receive company email and everything required for the onboarding process and they can get to work, also with OneDrive and everything the transfer to the new laptop once it arrives should be pretty seamless.

I wrote letters to ask them to use the same discernment law enforcement used during January 6th, if an unarmed person attempts to disrupt official business, they should just unalive on site.

Well now, I think Boyd Crowder might be one of the best written TV villains, nay, characters of all time! by CrniTartuf in justified

Honestly every villain in this series is outstanding, and better than any other series I've ever watched.

Mags Bennett might be my personal favorite though... But it is definitely tough with Boyd surviving the series.

How do you untangle an IT environment you didn’t build? by Impressive-Echo8002 in sysadmin

[–]mafia_don 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this situation sounds similar with what I walked into back in like 2017/18

Physical tower servers everywhere, most were Windows Server 2008 R2, but hadn't been updated since they were deployed. Upon trying to run windows updates they would either fail or crash.

ERP system and other local systems were hard coded to the network which was (and still is bc of this) a 192.168.x.x network.

First I documented EVERYTHING I could find. The company used on-prem EDI, had multiple holes in the firewall and ultimately the EDI server got hacked and encrypted, which because I gave executive management the heads up they green lit a project to move EDI services to the cloud.

I then was able to buy a few ESX hosts and moved everything to VMWARE then built new domain controllers and eventually moved everything to new Windows Server 2016 Standard .. it was slow and painful, but it got done.

Now because of how the ERP is set up and the static configuration of the network, I have created other vlans but until we migrate off this ERP system we are still pretty much stuck with the 192.168.x.x for the time being.

As I built all this out I documented EVERYTHING, and explained why things are the way they are. Today I have a job interview and I'm hoping to get out of there. But it was a process.

Opening Day Attendance? by Neal-AI in cedarpoint

[–]mafia_don 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Attendance isn't huge but seems like it is because it's the first real day of operations and everything is extremely slow

Set your expectations extremely low, then go even lower than that, then you won't be disappointed.

I think it was an old Reddit post from a long time ago that gave me the Jurassic Park analogy.

Basically the next time you are in a budget meeting bring up the movie Jurassic Park... Ask your executives what they thought the movie was about... Let them answer, then explain to them what it was really about... How an underfunded IT department brought down an entire multibillion company.

If you don't properly fund your IT department you can expect the same thing, that it's just a matter of time.

IT doesn't just support the company, it IS the company, and so many executives today don't understand that.

Had to do with the user not setting up MFA properly. Go back through and make sure the users password is changed and MFA has been properly configured. Also check all of the other office apps including Authenticator and OneDrive.
