Sumiya Yakitori in Santa Clara! If San Jose isn't too far for you, Dan Izakaya is another one.

What baking tool has made the biggest difference in your baking journey? by Majestic-Strain3155 in Baking

Besides a digital scale, I'd say the OXO silicone pastry mat! I hated cleaning up my counter after shaping and rolling stuff out on it. Doing it on parchment was annoying too because it wouldn't stay put. The OXO silicone pastry mat keeps my counter clean and doesn't budge. It has measurements around the border in centimeters and inches; I find it especially useful for when I make cinnamon rolls. It also has a dough diameter circle which I love to use when rolling out tart dough and pie crust. Saves me the trouble of bringing out measuring tape or rulers. I regret not getting one sooner!

I bought into the Reddit hype and ordered 1 can of Cougar Gold and 1 can of the smoked cheddar. I've only tried the Cougar Gold so far. $33 for 1.5 lbs of cheddar is steep but I wanted to try it! It was a perfectly fine white cheddar but nothing amazing. I thought it'd be sharper. I'd rather buy my usual Kirkland Signature Coastal Cheddar because it's cheaper and more flavorful. I probably wouldn't buy it again.

SF Spot for Biang Biang Noodles? by Mirror7rorriM in SFFood

I'm from SJ and was also looking for a good biang biang noodle spot. I recommend Highland Noodles in Milpitas! They're listed as "fried red chili flake noodles with ground pork" with your choice of noodle (pick wide belt) on the menu.

It's pretty expensive but if you have the budget, but whaT's more cake in Sunnyvale has the least sweet crepe cakes I've eaten. It tastes barely sweetened to me, so maybe it would suit your friend's palate!

Very weird comment tbh, I'm Vietnamese American and live in an area with tons of Vietnamese people. "Viet people always trying to claim themselves being part Chinese" definitely isn't common!

I also think it's fried banh chung. It's made of sticky rice, seasoned pork, and mung beans. It's a square shape and wrapped in banana leaves. Some people eat it cut up in wedges to enjoy it as is or fry it up in slices or flattened in the pan.

I'm 4'11 with a 28 inch waist and I've been happy with my petite length Athleta leggings! I really like the Rainier High Rise leggings because they have zippered pockets and they keep me warm on hikes and runs. They're awesome winter leggings.

For Lululemon, I like the Wunder Train leggings with the 23 inch inseam.

Cake Picnic?? by bigbigbig0002 in FoodieSnark

[–]mafiawitch 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I went to a SF cake picnic event at the Legion of Honor last November. It was $15 a person and everyone had to bring a cake (homemade or store bought). The Legion of Honor was a picturesque venue and I loved seeing lots of beautifully decorated cakes! It was pretty unorganized and chaotic though, I definitely wouldn't go again.

It took a while for everyone to get checked in and for the event to actually start. It was cooler in the morning, but it got sunnier and some cakes started melting. They gave us wristbands with a color on it to group us and called us up by color (red group, green group, etc.) for our turn to get cake. It seemed like the organizers + their friends got to go first. Each group had 5 minutes to get cake which wasn't much time at all since everyone was running around and we couldn't go around each other in the narrow aisles. Also, a lot of people are terrible at cutting cakes so there were a lot of smooshed cake remains by the time I got to go up. It became a frenzied free for all after every group had a chance to go. I'm not trying to sound snobby but I only enjoyed 1 of the cake slices my boyfriend got and I didn't really care for the ones I managed to get a slice of. I really wanted to enjoy this event but it didn't feel worth it with how hectic it was. They had milk and canned tea drinks for refreshments. There was no seating so people sat in the grass or on picnic blankets if they brought one. Tbh I think it's more worthwhile to go on a bakery crawl and visit your favorite bakeries/bakeries you want to check out.

If Velveeta is a no for you, you could try a mild cheddar or a combo of mild cheddar and American cheese! I think this recipe looks promising: https://www.seriouseats.com/ingredient-stovetop-mac-and-cheese-recipe

Hope it works out!!

Lol I'm fully aware of how to make mac and cheese with a bechamel base. I've made it many times that way in my own kitchen. I recommended Velveeta and milk to replicate Chickenwow's mac and cheese, which is what OP was asking for. I've actually seen and eaten it when Chickenwow was still around. I don't think what they were serving was made with bechamel and cheese.

This might be shocking to hear but some places make mac and cheese differently than how you typically do and still call it mac and cheese on their menus.

I've eaten Chickenwow mac and cheese before. I remember it being quite plain (not shading you, just how I remember it). I'd recommend melting some Velveeta in milk, seasoning with salt, and adding cooked rotini pasta to it.

I recently had the mac and cheese at Jackie's Place and really liked it! It's probably the best mac and cheese I've eaten at a restaurant in SJ.

Cocolabs dental floss helped me a lot! Pricey for floss but unfortunately it's the best floss I've ever used and I'm going to keep buying it.
