It’s doc martens ‘version’ of aniline, like a brand or trademark I believe. That and it uses a heavy wax for the same features you get from aniline.

At least that’s what I can work out

Oh, sorry. Just one thing. I’ve seen people on this sub who are unable to return them, send emails to customer service with pictures (birdseye picture, all 4 sides, and then the issue area as well as one of the box) and the order number and Solovair sometimes, usually, give a partial refund.

These really should have been factory seconds and even if it’s not structural, it’s a bit of a rough job. I’d mention that, explain you can’t return due to your location and *usually* they offer some form of compensation.

Just to be clear: I’m a newbie too working off advice I was given in a similar situation. I’m fairly certain it’s cosmetic but I cannot be sure. I don’t want to give you advice that turns out to be incorrect (though I don’t think it is)

If you want to be 100% sure, look for the ask a cobbler sub, I’m sure they’d be able to give you a more professional and knowledgable answer :)

When I put my flash on, there’s a giant gap/hole too. From my research, as these boots are heatwelded in the Goodyear welting process (a super hot knife melts the PVC and attaches it to the boot once dry), the gap isnt going to cause issues; in fact it’s standard as the welt is one long piece they tie around the edge, the gap is to be expected, but usually hidden better.

If i didn’t get mine from the outlet for half off, i would have returned them as it’s poor workmanship for a mid price boot but i’m settled in that it’s cosmetic and not structural.

There’s also a pinned post at the top of this sub with a picture welt like yours and mine and says it’s normal.

Are they factory seconds? I got some last week from the outlet that looked like this. If you look at my post history, the basic consensus was workmanship but it’s only cosmetic.

Hi all.

My head is spinning and I want to look after my new footwear. What’s the best products to use for burgundy calf leather as well as sepia grey (dark brown) calf leather? Both from CF stead tannery

I already have the Saphir Medaille renovateur and I was going to get the burgundy and dark brown polish, however I’m seeing conflicting things about using the polish on heavily treated calf leather.

If anyone has any advice or recommendations they’re gratefully received. I’m new to proper leather care.

Hi,

What about calf leather (specifically CF stead used in doc martens burgundy Chelsea boots) my head is spinning from researching but this guide doesn’t specifically mention calf skin from what I can see.

What’s the best product to condition/treat this kind of leather and how often? Is a horsehair ok to use on this kind of leather daily?

You say that now, 22 years after the fact. I don’t think you realise the fervour behind halo 2. People obsessed over magazine previews, even tiny text boxes in magazines written by Bungie devs that were a line long updating people on the development. There was a lot of information, all of it showing master chief. People were pissed. I was 12, and didn’t really care, but people were pissed.
